I don't know about you but when I pump PC94, the power increase over 91 Vpower is noticable. Sure the 91 gets rid of the crickets somewhat, but it's a lot down on power compared to pc94.

The car was meant to run on 93 optimally as per owners manual. I just believe the crickets came with the car so don't care to pump 91vpower anymore and go straight pc94. Sure the car runs on 91 Vpower, but it's certainly not running at its most optimal. Pc94 and crickets FTW I guess...

91vpower vs pc94 is even more evident in my mr2. You can totally tell the engine is pulling back timing due to lower octane. I would just stick with the pc94, live with the chirps, and be done with it. I've still had chirps with 91vpower fwiw.

Owners manual did say it was okay up to 10% ethanol mix. But some people run e85 with no issues

I can't say I feel a definite power difference between shell 91 and petro 94, but I can definitely say there is a difference in mileage, especially with pure city driving. For daily driving, I've been sticking with shell 91 since I do get noticeably better mileage. That said, anytime it's bee on a track or autox I only run petro 94.

I'd guess the ECU on our car is tuned for 91, which is the lowest common denominator as far as octane is concerned.

I'd drive on 91 if I absolutely had to, but would not push the car hard on anything less than 93.

This is just my opinion from everything happening with the DI seal issue, but the majority appear to be happening on the west coast, where there's only 91 octane. I'm sure there's more to it than just that, but just a pattern I noticed.
