The motor weighs how much? I am suggesting a lot of that article was written from marketing release sheets.

from what ive read, electric power steering motors are somewhat heavy. my uneducated guess would be 5-10lbs. not worth removing to me, but for weight savings, every little bit adds up.

If driving without it won't damage the steering system, you can consider mine already out.

It seems to me like turning at extremely slow speeds might put too much torque on the steering rack. But if that's the only potential problem, all you have to do is make sure you've always got at least a little bit of speed before you start turning. Not good for a daily driver, but mine is not a daily driver.

Only 997lbs after you take out the power steering.

I am guessing since no one answered the question that was asked that the answer was no.
Whatever... True manual steering racks have different gear ratios to make the steering easier. Suspensions sometimes have different caster angles to compensate for manual steering as well as lack of dampening forces absorbed by the PS rack which can make steering difficult under rough road conditions.
I'm sure you can handle it though..

So you think deleting the power steering in our cars would result in an ugly situation?

I personally much prefer a car with a true manual steering rack, but simply deleting the power steering, while maintaing a power rack will result in less than optimal steering. I have driven in cars with both setups and there really is a HUGE difference.

I am all for less is more, keeping it simple for that direct feel.., less weight.. Etc. But this steering rack is designed for power assist. Most importantly.. It's excellent the way it is!
You can probably pull a fuse or a relay and check it out yourself without much fuss.. I have no interest in doing so..

I'll be home in about 2 months, so if no one has tried it by then, I'll give it a go. I expect it to feel ridiculously heavy without the assist though. We shall see...

i took a look at the motor today out of curiosity. it looks huge and heavy, and a giant pain in the ass to remove, if even possible. i also drove my car down a hill with the engine off, it was pretty tough to turn under 30k.
