Huh? How's this work? I don't think there's many other markets that have the same spec of build that could be shifted over to us like that. Besides, how'd you determine this in time for the year to be over? They must mean if the FR-S doesn't sell as well as Jack Hollis is expecting than they'd start building more BRZ's instead. It's all baloney anyways, they can always up production if demand warrants.

I don't think they will shift it in the middle of the year like that, they mean if at the end of the year say Europe doesn't sell their entire allotment, for next year they will decrease Europe's allotment and increase the US allotment. Basically they will not increase the US allotment just due to high demand.

Thoughts on price and marketing

I thought is strange that Scion would announce price so much earlier than Subaru. What I think happened was there was a disagreement between Subaru and Toyota(Scion) about the pricing. I bet Subaru wanted it priced higher than Toyota did, and since Subaru was going to get the units out of the factory, they were going to capitalize on the limited availablity. I think Toyota wanted the car priced lower because it was a matter of "face" that the car is successful since Toyota spearheaded the project, and Toyota was concerned a high initial price would sour the market. Therefore, I think Scion announced their price early intending to force Subaru to keep the price low, otherwise Subaru would take a hard public relations hit for trying to take advantage of customers if it was charging a lot more for the same car. As it stands now, since we know what we will be for the FR-S, many of us would abandon ship, buy a FR-S, and slam Subaru on the very place they plan to market the car - the Internet.

Since the two can't really argue about the price, it's unlikely. The cars cost whatever they cost at various production levels and the companies independently decided on trims for the US market and pricing.. just for whatever reason Subaru is being a pain in the ass on releasing pricing. Long ago I heard about how screwed up Subaru was when it came to communication and pricing, I just never realized how accurate that was until recently...

I had the opposite reaction to the Scion pricing. I was considering switching to Scion if the price was low enough, but when they announced that it was going to be 25k, and we know the Subaru will be at most 26k (unless they've been lying to us the whole time), it's a no brainer to me.

With what we now know regarding FR-S pricing, I tend to agree with your assessment. All Toyota did was may the BRZ Premium a more attractive purchase proposition with respect to its Scion counterpart.

You mean 25k with delivery for the scion. That's much different than 25k.

Your right the BRZ premium is going to the big seller, if they price it at $25k+Shipping...Thats only $800 more than the FR-S...and damn well worth it! HIDS and real navigation wins every time. At 6,000 cars a year, you will be able to get one. Not many people are going to be buying a 25k+ 4 banger sports car. I doubt they will even sale all of them.

The dream of theirs of making 100k units a year is a very big pipe dream. No way will this ever happen at these price points. 25k-35k units world wide max is all I see this car doing...

Now if the FR-S get a sub 6 secs 0 to 60 time in testing....all bets are off...LOL!

I just include that in the price since everyone has to pay it. I don't think the BRZ will be over 26k including delivery but we'll find out soon enough.

You think in world sales the car cannot outsell initial 350z US sales or what the Dodge Challenger sold last year in the US? As long as the car is not supply constrained, I think it's a given that just in the US it will at least match Miata's best years.

I'd be fine getting my car by Aug/Sept, but earlier is cool too! I'm #3 at my dealership, so I dunno what will happen.
