If they made something cheaper, it would have to be smaller, less powerful, and made with even cheaper components. I could maybe imagine a kei-car, but no one other than Japan and Australia would see it. I'm not gonna hold my breath; I think the FRS is the cheapest, smallest rwd car we'd be able to get.

I bet the TC would sell like crazy with AWD or RWD...

An MR-2 wouldn't be bad but if its like the MR-S that car sold for around 23K new in 2000, so I don't know how they would pull off making it cheaper than the FR-S, I don't think they could go much cheater on the interior and still make it so people actually want to buy it.

You guys don't realize how much horsepower 180 is, the zzw and aw MR2 had 140-160 (4a-gze). What lightweight motor does Toyota make right now that can pump out 180 hp? None. The 2ar is the only 180 hp capable 4 cylinder engine they have. The 2zr is only barely more powerful than the 1zz and weighs only 1kg less, and it has an 88mm stroke so good luck getting power out of that tiny head.

If they make the MR2, you can bet that it will not be much faster than the FRS if at all. I think what it will come down to is whether the engine is as disappointing as the 1zz, looks, and storage space. All they need to do is replicate the aw10's design criteria in those aspects with a nice stuff modern chassis, and I'll go get a loan to buy one right away. I'll be extremely pleased with 150hp if they can match the ZZW curb weight, should be possible with a tweaked 1ZR or something like that.
