My uncle had a Datsun 510 wagon. It was a tin can, but it was fun to ride around in.

Somebody should build a modern 240Z, *and* a modern 510 lineup including 2-, 4-, 3-, and 5-door models...

FR-S/BRZ platform would seem to be a reasonable place to start

Honestly, the hopes are very high for this. But for the moment, the company announced that it'll only use the brand in easter-asian markets for affordable cars (a-la Tata Nano, and such).

But there's definitely some hope!

The first time I saw the FT86 in profile I immediately thought of how much it resembled the Datsun 240-280Z. And the formula is the same too. Low cost, moderate power, great handling and fun for the masses.

My step-father had a 260Z and I had a 280Z which was one of my favorite cars of all time. I had to sell it when my first son was born. When the last of my four kids graducated high school, I treated myself to a 2003 350Z. It was a good car too but did not have that light tossable feel that the early Z cars had.

It is great to hear the Datsun name is gong to be resurrected.

Not the same thing.

If they make a modern 510, hope it is both a 2 and 4 door to make both sets of fans happy.
