Hmm, that is a good observation. Well, then I'd say at least we have room to grow.

It depends. We can't really have an intelligent discussion on it without having the cars yet The concepts of exhaust design are easy enough, implementing them correctly isn't always as easy

I've done straight runs on some small NA cars before, significant low end torque loss, but sure, top end power increased nicely. My old track exhaust for my Integra was like that..

To be honest I can't remember how bad the exhaust looks on this car and I don't care enough to search

Experimentation is the only way to answer this question, hopefully some of the good guys in this field (like HyTech) will do some R&D on this car and build a great system that's still quiet. I have no problem shelling out the 1200 or so for a real exhaust that makes power and is still livable.

Eggsactly. Almost all questions about this car can't be answered until deliveries occur and significant research and development occurs. Trust me when I say it snakes around though.

I'm all about quality. If it makes power, sounds good, and costs more than the "affordable" option(s) (see: ebay) then I will buy the expensive one, given it is proven. Money does not always equal better, but there's a significant correlation between the two.

On a N/A vehicle EGBP is integral to how the engine operates, from my understanding. Simply replacing the exhaust willy-nilly may not produce power, but a properly sized exhaust (and replacing the exhaust manifold) will make power. So yes, he could spend money on an exhaust system that doesn't do anything; however, there will be exhaust systems that make power. It's ignorant to say that all aftermarket exhausts won't make power.

I spent $1100 total on exhaust components for my WRX. You have to pay to play. Buying used will lessen the expense, of course.
Never said that. I said I "doubt it". And even if it did do you think it would be worth the money you spent especially for a DD?

I usually buy new exhausts for my sportier cars. Usually the factory exhaust isn't 'sporty' enough for me. I like a bit more growl and tone than what comes on most cars, and maybe a tad more volume. Getting a couple of extra horsepower isn't a real concern with me, but the sound is.

That being said, I'm not going to rush out and get an exhaust the first month I have the car. Maybe it'll be adequate. Who knows? The stock exhausts on my Miatas weren't, however.

From what we've heard about the huge heavy muffler, even if the new exhaust doesn't produce any more power, just having a nicer sound, tips that fill out the bumper, and 30-50 lbs weight savings are enough reasons for me to spend 1k+ for a nice exhaust.

Lol why do yall always gotta go technical on me? I just wanted something bigger than the stock US tips. I prefer silent exhaust anyhow, so would cheap tips be worthwhile and still maintain hp, mpg, and ninjalike silence?

Tyia!

yeah, I think the bigger gain would be the weight loss. That muffler and pipe setup is HUUUUUGE

If it were turbo, I'd agree with you. My WRX is a straight pipe and it sounds awesome. But I think N/A 4cyl engines sound bad when straight piped.

I think you can have all 3 with some...unconventional thinking But it would be VERY unconventional thinking.

On the topic of unconventional exhaust, have you looked into the different anodizing available for aluminum (I know this is where you're going... ). I was reading up on methanol, and there was mention of 'triple marine grade anodizing' for all the aluminum bits that will be in contact with it due to the corrosive nature of methanol.

Something for your magic aluminum exhaust?
