Heel Toe Around Town?

Does people get the Basic Principal of Heel and Toes ?

It is to Control, or Hold back the Torque (Sudden Torque) for Drifting or Cornering.

Drifting = Brake if it is too much out of control, and Back on the High-Rev again when you got it back to Balance to keep the Drifting Speed, and keep on Drifting. This is where you need Heel and Toes to control Both, the Brake and the Torques

Hold Torque, this is where you Hold the wheel still with the brake, while you Rev the Engine and Engage the Clutch, your car moves no where, and suddenly Release the Brake, the Tires loose it traction due to Extreme Sudden Torque, and spin. This is Burn Out.

Now, why would u need this around town ? Drifting ? LOL

This. If it's something that has zero drawbacks and requires almost no effort or thought, then why not? I really can't imagine NOT heel-toeing when downshifting, regardless of the situation.

For those who think it's "useless" in daily driving, what are the benefits when NOT heel-toeing? Or what are the drawbacks to heel-toeing?

I think you're a bit misinformed, here's my reference video, very little drifting going on:

I guess I have trouble getting it smooth at low speeds (which again, the primary reason is to help SMOOTHLY get into the right gear when turning in) because I never apply the brakes hard enough to get my heel close to the gas pedal for a good blip.

Just downshifting while coasting off the gas slows me down progressively while giving people behind me time to slow down as well, I'd rather be smooth than fast, especially with how little other drivers pay attention. I'm usually in the correct gear long before I touch the brakes so I have no need to blip while braking.

I guess this also relies on how much traffic you drive in everyday, I rarely have the roads to myself to do as I please. The curse of living in a populated nice area.

Heel and toe for just normal every day driving is for that small, select group of people that think they're something special because they drive a car with a manual transmission.

i may be dumb as hell but why in my trip to get groceries do i need to apply gas while im trying to brake???

I am not Mis-Informed. He used Heel and toes for both purpose in the Corner. To Slow the car down, and keeping up the Torque (this is the same as Controling Torque) for Cornering

So, please somebody tell me, why in the hell would I need Heel and Toes in Day to Day Traffic, or Around town ? Enlighten Me. You can do this on getting up a Super high Hill where you brake and stood still, Again this isn't something you would do around town...or Day to Day driving...

Sorry, I misunderstood when half your post was talking about drifting in vague terms I had a hard time understanding.

Do you NEED to do it? No. But there's certainly no harm in doing it anyway.

For DD I rev match to avoid wear. The only time I heel-toe is when that reckless word comes into the equation.

Yeah heel toe if you bog the engine at the speed you take the corner at. I'd rather be in the right gear at the right power taking a corner. It's NOT a reckless technique.

There's 3-4 turns where I'll routinely heel-toe around my town. Mostly because they're fun turns with no traffic. The rest of the time I just rev-match down shift.

I'm a new manual driver and heel and toe simply because I'm trying to hone this particular skill for the track.

Most of the time its useless, but I have noticed its semi-useful when I need to brake + accelerate out of a sticky situation fast. It also helps hone my rev matching, which also helps me accelerate out of sticky situations on the road.

I live in Cali though and need to drive aggressively to get around all the crazies... I'm sure in a more laid back area 99% of the time I'd do it just for fun.

I do sometimes when I'm slowing down off the main highway road to and from work.

I like doing it. I had two cars for the duration of about 8 months and I never did it. Then when I got my wrx and started doing it again, I was pure crap at it haha.

I agree with practicing and doing it here and there. It keeps the motions fresh so you don't get rusty
