I agree that Subaru/Toyota went super mega ultra cheap in attempting to differentiate the two models. Thankfully, the car appears to be an excellent drivers car, which hopefully is a consolation for the whole identical-everything-but-front-bumper embarassment. Nevertheless, I'd rather have a good drivers car badge engineered between two brands that couldn't afford to do the car on their own than no drivers car at all. It's the lesser of two evils, even though it's frustrating for ideology.
You make a great a point.

No offence intended but I wouldn't recommend this. If you're going to put the majority of saved money towards anything it should be either post secondary or moving out/property buy. I do love cars, but when it comes down to it now, I'd rather have the money I have with a Corolla than what I could have bought with my savings. In fact, if I had done the latter, a car I could have bought (and can still buy) would probably have killed me or left me a paraplegic...

It is however your money!

Theres a bit of a difference here between colabed vehicles and badge engineering.

One of the worst badge engineering vehicles is the Mitsubishi Eclipse / Eagle Talon /Plymouth Laser. Because under the flag of DSM (mistu-chrysler), they tried to weasle their way into the american sports car segment to combat japanese competitors to sell more cars under several different flags. Basically, too many greedy hands trying to make money out of the venture.

The best badge engineered vehicle IMO to date is the Holden Monaro / Vauxhuall Monaro / Pontiac GTO.

A colab, vehicle is a slightly different venture than badge engineering. Because both developing parties put stake and funds into the development of a chassis which is counter-productive to badge engineering.
