I agree; it's about compound, not width.

Either way - the original wheels can take 225 and the car feels better on those SO WHY NOT?

Personal preference and i know that it's all about compound. We can talk abut tires as well and we all prefer different brands.

Personal opinion - good 215 are perfect for daily and AutoX but at the same time 225 just feel better on the track

Oversteer and barely recoverable drifts are my fave. So I'd have to say FRS. And besides, it's homage to AE86.

Correct me if I am mistaken, but didn't we know this before the cars were even on the market?

Feels better? That's subjective.

If you agree it's all about compounds, then why are you comparing tire sizes? This goes back to the original question. What do you mean by "feels better"?

The only time you can objectively compare 2 different tire sizes is if they're both using the similar compound under the same conditions.

For example, if you have 2 Dunlop tires of the same model, one is 215 and the other is 225, then the 225 tire should produce more grip (assuming all things are equal).

So, we had an FR-S for 3 months, it got T-boned, now we have a BRZ. We did get to autocross the FR-S once before its untimely demise.

I have to say I prefer the BRZ's handling for being more confidence-inspiring. Because it is more balanced, it's easier to drive it the way you want to. The FR-S demands a style of driving that accounts for its tendency to oversteer. If you're trying to set the best time, it will be at the back of your mind approaching and leaving every apex. Not that you're going to spin it or anything, I mean, it's the easiest car in the world to catch with a little bit of opposite lock. In the BRZ, you can drift if you want to, no problem. But if you don't want to, it lets you just get right down to business.

You are absolutely right it is subjective and for that matter I believe that every personal opinion is. And I really do not understand what is the problem with being Subjective. At the end of the day we all make choices based on our own (subjective opinions or feelings) and not the overall objective truth.

As for the tires I had the Dunlop Direzza ZI in my BMW and than figured I want to have the ZII in the FR-S ( However I couldn't make my mind on the width and got the 225s and went to the 2nd autoX for the season. At the same event there was another FR-S with the same ZII but 215 and it was easier to rotate and did not miss grip anywhere )

I've done only one track day so far and there I didn't get to compere the tires back to back but (Subjectively - I felt comfortable with the 225 and had the subjective taught that 215s might "feel" as good and I liked the level of grip i had - I did not need more or less)

At the end of the day each driver should set up their car the way they want and feel most comfortable and go have some fun! I hope you agree with that!
