whats the exact reason they can't be imported is it a safety issue ?

a group of friends though of shipping a nissan patrol considering we are international students and i think you can use it for 6 months or so I'm not sure of such laws though

You're a student who drives a Ferrari 458. I'm gonna guess your family has a bit of extra money laying around. Just fedex it over in pieces as spare parts and pay someone to build it again for you, or ask your butler to smuggle one over the border with your private helicopter

Well from what i understand, looking at the R33, it didn't pass emissions and side crash test. So they added a bunch of catalytic converters (3 or 4?) and a metal beam on the side doors of the car, or something like that. But do this day, i still think you have to do all those modifications in order for it to be road worthy in the US.

The R34 was rumored to never been tested to US crash testing standards, the whole Nissan Skyline importing thing for the United States is a real mess. Heres a good article. http://skylinegt-r.wikidot.com/0-60mrex
