That can be remedied easily.. Took me 10 min to adjust.. Check out the DIY forum or the service manual for the procedure..

I actually didn't know how to drive stick when I got mine. I learned as soon as I got mine and stayed away from automatics since so I don't fall into bad habits. I pretty much drive 100% city driving too since I take back roads home.

I have to say go with the manual. I sort of find it easier driving in traffic since I can choose the gear I want to be in and keep moving. You feel highly more in control (because you are) as you navigate through traffic. I felt this way even when I wasn't 100% comfortable with driving yet.

no problem in traffic at all. its just the fact that your clutch is wearing out faster than its supposed to because of bumper to bumper traffic.

But maybe getting a fun car would encourage me to go to work earlier and leave later

Am I the only one that stalled the first instant I got in the car? Been driving auto soo much that I forgot to get my right foot off the brake when I engaged clutch point
Yea, I hate LA traffic. I'm surprised how used to it I got, fast... Definitely wouldn't want to deal with that daily though!

And I stalled the fr-s a lot the first day I had it . That's how I learned to drive a stick, lol... Not the best way to do it, but I learned fast enough I'm hoping I didn't kill my clutch too much. Nowadays I rarely stall.

Driving the fr-s, I definitely find myself taking the long way to just about anywhere. My fiance always tries to tell me how I'm driving wrong, but I just smile and tell her if there's a funner road, I'll take that any day

I had battled and lost while learning manual on my friends car and lost all desire to drive stick.

This forum convinced me to stick with MT (pun intended). I need to thank the ft86club members for what will be a lifetime of automotive happiness (and has been the past year)!

When i bought this car a little over a week ago it was the first time id really driven a stick in over 3 years, i work at a dealership so i drive sticks into the bay but other than that i was starting fresh. I was nervous about driving a mt in traffic also but a week in it doesnt bother me at all so id reccomend going MT

The MT on these cars is really easy to use. Sometimes when the transmission is cold the box feels a little bit notchy, but that's basically the only gripe I have with it. The clutch is light and easy to use, and although the flywheel is lighter than some other cars it doesn't take long to get used to it at all. It's no racing flywheel, just a bit lighter than some.

i actually think it might be easier to drive in traffic w/ a manual tranny.

Reason being... if you keep some distance in front of you, you just have to give small throttle inputs instead of having to ride the break the whole time.

I can sit through an hour of traffic every day in mostly 2nd gear the whole time. No need to shift.

how slow can you stick in 2nd gear? I recall going single digits when test driving.

No idea, but >10mph is usually good. I usually go down to first if I go really low though (~5mph for those damn speed bumps). In traffic, usually either or 1st or 2nd works depending on how bad.

traffic is seriously overrated by some people.

I start driving Manual when i got my first summer/winter job. It's essentially at least an hour and half a day through LA traffic everyday (assuming light traffic.... if there are accidents or it just happened to rain... then...... ) you will get used it.

My first manual (co-worker convinced me, it was scary in his Mustang when he gave me a quick go), learned on it, was frightening on hills, bumper to bumper traffic is scary especially on hills. Got used to it driving to work daily, no regrets, loving it probably would not get an automatic again unless convenience calls for it when I'm old. Downshifting to speed up feels awesome, and it sounds great slowing down to match traffic speed, would never have that same experience in an automatic. Just don't do stupid things, and drive safe. Going to be interesting when winter hits in Canada, and I still really need to adjust my clutch catch point. Weirdest feeling ever with all that free play, kind of got used to it.
