You can convert the location data files no problem, the files are just straight text files; each line is a dump from the GPS in a standard format....NMEA standard format I believe. With this site and the data file you would do alright. |

Hopefully last thing(s) - what rate does it log at (I am guessing 1Hz)? - does the 500 output accelerometer readings, or does it only use its G-sensor for triggering start-recording? And if anybody has some data they can share, especially from an autox or at least some form of racing, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks again, Bruce |

I still recommend the GT300W. For 109 it records 1080p and has great night shots (read the review on dashcamtalk.com). The only issue I found is the mount is large and bulky so I used some blue-tac and stuck it onto my rear view mirror at an angle so it aims forward. Installing is easy if you run the wire to the glove department cig lighter.
280 is a ton for a dash cam. just my 2 cents =X.

For using it solely as a dash cam, ~$100 should be able to get a guaranteed "winner". For even half that price there are some bargains out there, but you have to beware of the "losers" in the mix. But I'm planning on using this to help find ways to race autox better... and doing it "on the cheap" which for this application $280 is actually pretty cheap. |

-There are three files that get created per video segment: video, GPS, and a .3gf file. The last file is all garbage and you'll need the Blackvue software to read it... however, there is an alternative called Registrator Viewer (which I have not tried). The accelerometer data is always flowing and it looks like Registrator Viewer is able to display show the actual values.

dvr-027. best bang for the buck. i'm planning to outfit all my cars with this device. i don't see a sense in getting these fancy dancy blackvu's when the dvr027 is sufficient.

I adapted my Kodak PlayTouch Zi-10 using a RAM Mounting Systems RAM-B-166-202AU windshield mount (after testing two others, it's the most adjustable, vibration-free MIL spec mount) and a USB 12V adapter.
A 32 Gb card will record about 10 hours @ 720p, less @ 1080p. Excellent image quality, optical image stabilization and the internal battery is good for about 2 hrs. between charges, indefinitely with the USB adapter and a hot outlet or hard wired. Zi-10's are new on eBay for < $50, even less refurbished. Ram mount is $32, adapter that can charge any mini USB device $8 for a rig far more versatile than a dedicated mobile videocam.

to Books: thanks for the info
1Hz is pretty slim for GPS data for autox and I'm getting the picture (NPI) that is what comes on all the GPS+DASH CAMs. So I am probably looking at separate GPS & CAMERA setups. to torqdork re: camera only I failed to see the advantage of your setup over hmong337's DVR-027 HD. For a camera-only buy, I'd probably go for either something like the DVR-027 HD or to splurge and spend the ~$90 you are suggesting to get this SJ1000 - The best action camera under $100... [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QppW_0_DuiE"]The best action camera under $100. The SJ1000 budget 1080p multi-purpose waterproof action cam. - YouTube[/ame] which is basically a GoPro (barely) Lite to get what looked like better vid quality, 1080P, waterproof enclosure and some more mounting options. Was there something awesome about the Zi10 I missed? |

Not sure if you have it hardwired, but you can use telephone cord wire that came with it hardwire it to your fuse box, running the cable near the top of the windshield and down the A pillar. |
