We do 6 and 12 hour endurance races at Ebisu and for the races in summer I will never go back to not using a cool shirt!
In the fully stripped, race prepped S2000 we race I have no hesitation strapping the home made cooler box to the floor (definitely make your own box - fish tank pump and connectors are really all you need). It is heaven to get in at a driver change and hook up to the system, instant coolness over your whole upper body. Without it I would struggle to concentrate for a 2 hour stint in the car and with crazy stripped down civics all over the place being driven by amateur kids its worth being able to focus. Although we make our own box, we do use proper shirts as making those would be a pain... However unless you are doing long stretches of time on the track its not worth the extra hassle to run these shirts. On a hot day I might consider it for a full day track event, but I would make sure the box seals perfectly before putting it in my nice clean interior. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD |

Here's my homebuilt unit; even built the shirt!!!! cost me about $200 total for cooler setup, shirt, etc.
used a better bilge pump (Johnson Controls) than the cool shirt / FAST unit, used the exact SAME sealed cooler, wired it up with trailer wiring so i could quickly disconnect the unit, and made a custom mount that bolted into the stock passenger seat bolting locations. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Also built my own helmet blower system for a fraction of the price, INCLUDING a cooling system for it (PVC container that would draw the incoming air from the NACA duct across ice that was contained by mesh vertically inside the PVC, see below). It was awesome! ![]()

The FAST shirt is really nice and also cools the shoulders, I like that. As for doing it yourself to save money I went one step further... I rented the car to another driver that wouldn't drive without it so I made him buy it for me... (Thanks Dad!).
