I had a rental focus a few weeks ago and the steering wheel had over 20 buttons on it, including two 4-way directional pads. It was/is just silly.

Positive. My game controllers have fewer buttons. Also, with a game controller I'm sure I could have figured out how to set the radio stations.

They are kind of failing at half of the monospec philosophy IMO. Sure having one level car is great... but when there are no accessories to add to it at the time of purchase then wtf? They had the right idea with the TC, but kinda gave up on the whole thing after the first year or so.

For a car that's only been out for a little less than a year, I'd have to say there's a very strong offering of aftermarket parts available. A lot of the stuff available for the tC was aftermarket product relabeled as TRD anyway (except for the supercharger that they seemingly sold for a matter of weeks before killing it off).
I guess you can't roll it into your car loan this way, but I'm not really interested in being upside-down anyway and the added parts and labor certainly don't increase the value of the car on the used market. -Justin

I very much prefer that the stupid lighting and audio options aren't available for the FR-S. The strobelight teenmobiles are the reason a lot of FR-S owners are embarrassed by the scion badge. Ever see a bunch of scions at a car show? It looks /sounds like an outdoor special ed dance club. If the lack of accessories at launch helps move them away from that then I'm ok with it. -Justin

The reason for the one spec car is so you don't have these special overpriced versions sitting on the lot all day. You have them all the same. Then when someone comes in to buy one. They choose from a list of addons to make it unique, special, ricey, classy, dope, phat, pimp, clean, cool, wicked-tight, sweet, or simple as they can afford/want. It was something I liked seeing since it was the closest thing to what they did in the 50-70s of offering what a customer wanted instead of these BS packages where for example: I want HIDs. Can I have them? No, you must choose this package for x$ that has 24 other things you don't want. If you simply want it as is then have it that way, but that doesn't mean they should go against one of the reasons they started the brand. |

It was a nice idea, but kids buying these cars are usually stretched just to make the car payment. They can't afford the $100+/hr dealer labor rate to install their mods - or the premium price of the dealer parts department. They were also initially very committed to having vehicles in the Scion lineup that were unique to the brand and not simply badge engineered. Toyota has given that up as well with the FR-S. Hey, they tried. Before the FR-S, scion was pretty much on its ass. Most of the dedicated scion showrooms at dealerships had been converted to used car showrooms, with the sales simply brought into the Toyota showroom. When I bought my xB I was in a Scion-only showroom dealing with a Scion-only salesman. I bought my FR-S from the same dealer - out of their Toyota showroom. -Justin

On the basics of the car itself I just wish they used a better design for the seatback adjustment. VW does great manual seats which have much more adjustability and yet remember where they were before they were flipped forward. I like a fairly upright in-control (think nearly auto-x) driving position but I end up with my shoulders either off the seatback or jammed too far forward. |

I haven't autoxed this yet, so I don't know if I'll find the same thing when I go to adjust for that. I'm so thrilled with the supportiveness of the seats in this car that I can't make myself complain about them.
Edit: Also, if there were a bigger options list I'd bet the seats would be one of them (especially in North America where there are a lot of buyers a bit too wide to comfortably fit in sport seats). I'm glad they just went and put the good seats in from the start. -Justin
