Just for driving, I think the SC would be better. But it will use more gas I agree.

I am leaning towards AVO as the Bullet/Innovative kit will whine and be noticeable. SOme might be keen on this, but I want a stealth setup.
AVO is a proven company, solid numbers, turbo very well sized for the engine; can't go wrong there. Innovative looks very promising too. Not as big of a name as AVO. I would wait for Innovative to come up with definitive numbers and then go from there. AVO's early torque is gonna be hard to beat.

Paul let me drive the AVO FRS the other day and my first thought was how much it felt like an SC because of how linear and smooth it is. This kit is one of the most OE looking and feeling I have seen for any car. I highly recomend it for anyone thinking of boosting.

AVO is a least common denominator turbo kit maker,

Innovate is breaking into a new market with proven parts. Quality Superchargers (don't get confused here they make a kit NOT the SC it'self) at the end of the day unless you throw away any China turbo that comes with any kit, it will always have questionable reliability and you should feel a bit guilty that you paid a fair sum of money to help the chinese steal turbo technology...I can not in good faith compare $300-$400 turbos to real turbos or superchargers.

When a company claims they "make their own turbos" everyone should really take a step back and consider what that might mean, because it certainly doesn't mean they have a multimillion dollar OEM level R&D facility like Borg Warner, Garret, KKK, Holset...ETC ETC.

Superchargers are far less critical of an assembly in regards to balance and clearances, a roots style charger usually has a 14,000-17,000 RPM redline, a turbo on the other hand can spin in excess of 150,000 RPM...

We've been doing turbochargers for 40 years, and have never claimed to make the CHRA's. We make the exhaust and compressor housings - as in we cast them ourselves, not take OEM units and mill them out. It's one of the reasons we don't recommend going to an external wastegate, since we aren't cramming larger wheels into a small OEM housing.

Paul,

I have some questions regarding your kit. But I'll ask them in your main thread, as they're more related there. The info may already be in your thread, but I can't find the time to trawl through 100 pages, 80-90% of which is jibber jabber.

In any case I'd say you'd compare innovate to vortech
AVO is going to be better than both.
The simple truth is... as ANY given psi level a turbo will ALWAYS make more than any type of supercharger. Simple efficiency.

Also I'd never add a HEaton or any other roots type blower to a car that already has a relatively warm engine bay. Even for street use.

I keep seeing these posts claiming 200k miles on the AVO kit I'm pretty sure they said te car had 150k on it when they added the turbo and is close to 200k now. Unless I'm thinking of a different vehicle but pretty sure it wasn't on since new. The AVO is a great kit just want to clarify that information.

The 200K I am talking about its not the AVO Forester which as you correctly say, has 200K+ miles but had the kit installed at 150K. I am talking about doing research on the net some years ago.

Edit: I want to clarify, NO ONE should expect 200K issue free miles out of a High Compression N/A motor to which you install an Aftermarket Turbo Kit if you will be trashing it a fair amount of time. I just think its unrealistic no matter what kit you choose. Also, supporting mods play a huge role on this. (Oil cooler, larger radiator, etc.) if you plan on tracking the car. I believe 200K miles with no problems is an abnormality, and only post it because it does show what their work has proven capable of in the best of conditions and because there are several other people with 100K+ miles and no issues either. I would expect that if you Daily Drive your BRZ/FRS and track it rarely, you can expect 100K + on the motor with a Stage 1 kit and conservative tune (no matter if its AVO, Innovate, Vortech, etc). Anything above that (more track time, Stage 2+ pushing 300+ whp, etc.) I would expect to run into minor/major problems at some point while closing in to 100K miles.

As far as reliability, I would have no problem recommending Vortech or AVO. Both are proven companies with years and years of track record. Innovate quite possibly too, but I can't say first hand.

Like I have said numerous times, I HATE misinformation, and I am in no way saying we can ALL expect that from AVO; nor that it is the norm. I only brought it up because their reliability was being questioned and IMHO the great results AVO has had for years talks a lot more.

in fact i don't think of anyone willing to setup a new supercharger kit with an older design eaton "mp" series. If any brand goes the eaton route, they will undoubtly chose the eaton tvs which is very efficient with cold iat at low boost they are aimed to produce on the fa20.

In fact at low boost level, the tvs design is more efficient than the twin screw (<10-12psi).

the only problem i think the tvs 1320 is a little too big for the fa20 and the 1050 is far from ready afaik. I wouldn't mind a kit based on the lysholm 1200cc tho.
