You could technically seat 5 in the ae86 so long as you weren't going very far. I think I got 6 people in mine once. It's all about creativity.

But as one of the few people among my friends with their own car, I'm usually the one driving on road trips so having 3 passengers sit relatively comfortably for up to 5 hours would be nice.

I'm hoping that kids will be able to fit in the back (with seats) I've driven 2 seaters for the last 7 years, so I'm used to it (and so are my friends) but this will be a car I want to be able to keep and use for many years...

I'm getting a look at an 86 tonight (advanced preview thing) so I should be able to post feedback tomorrow...

It seems, based on the picture, that the rear seats have an angled seat. For the adult picture, s/he needs to bend their legs a bit to be fit in. That said, with the LATCH on this car, I wonder if you can put a regular car seat for child under 30 lb because of that angle. However, for child who are on booster seat, we might be able to fill in something to compensate that angle so that they can sit somewhat flat on booster. One thing I am worrying is that it seems the rear seat is so down-below the child will not be able to see the front all the time.......

Personally i'm a short dude so i always have enough space in the back. LOL. I think the seats are positioned and pushed all the way to the back. I don't intend driving with others in the back but I can see the concern for those who want to bring friends and fam along for the ride.

Despite the name, this isn't any way related to an AE86 which was just a RWD corolla coupe.

Think of this like a cheap 911. The back seat isn't there for people to actually sit in...

I think you are dreaming if you you think you can fit anyone in the back seats.
Maybe you can seat your kids under 5ft. This thing is smaller than the mini cooper, and even those seats in the back are not seats for adults.

I mean this is a size of the s2000, mx5. imagine them having seats in the back!

I dunno, they look bigger than my Celica's rear seats.

I sat in the back of one last night for a good 10 minutes, the person sat infront of me, in the passenger seat, needed to move their seat forward, but they weren't squashed up to the glovebox. I think it will be fine for kids, no worse than any other 2+2 I've been in.

I actually fit really well the one time I went test driving a G35C when my friend took the wheel after we switched... So there are coupes out there that can handle the load...

I tried the RX-8 and it was very cramped...

Saving grace is, the tC actually has a lot of room too... So there isn't a whole loss for space...

Coming from my X-Runner, anything is an upgrade...

Baby seat or bust!

I'm 5'10" and no one ever gets to sit behind me because I drive almost fully extended in the driver's seat... So I'm only worried about the passenger's side lol...

Ichi had posted info about the rear seats in the Scion side...

They (Scion reps) have said that the rear seats were never meant to be functional, but are merely meant as a fold down option so you can fit 4 tires in it...

I'm highly saddened by this, but had this in the back of my mind since this car made production claims...

Still going to see it in person, hoping for the best...

It can't be that bad from the pictures. I grew up riding in 3rd row seats in cramped minivans from before minivans were big(literally). The backseat of a Camaro was luxurious to me.
