This was at Subaru city in Edmonton.
My car is a 2010 Honda civic Si and it's pretty much stock. Has like 20k miles. I was not arguing the fact that they had the car listed for 28k on Kijiji and then he told me no its 29999$ it was just very rude and he didn't even want me to be there ? They offered 14500$ for my car which is very low! |

Pretty much stock isn't stock. It adds no value when selling and makes it harder to sell. Plus dealers don't give full value, so traditionally they lowball. Like everyone else said sell private and take in the cash

Just did a quick CBB valuation and CBB values your car $14,330 (low trade-in) to $15,740 (high trade-in). $14,500, to be honest, is not bad. I'm not sure what the sales tax is in Ab, but you do get that on top of their offer (i.e. in BC, HST is 12% so if I am offered $14,500, I'm actually getting $16,240). Depending on how much you want that BRZ, I personally will accept their offer.
Now, the bait and switch (28,000 to 29,900) is a different issue on its own. Maybe the unit they have in stock has the diffuser, chrome garnish, etc. If it's completely stock and the price is 29,900, then look for another dealer. |

how do you expect them to make a profit from buying your car?
If they pay you the market price they will lose money if you don't like it go ahead and sell the car privately, then realize 3 months down the line how hard that can be esp if you want to get the highest price for it. how much is your time worth? how can a dealer be anything but rude to you if your showing blatant ignorance

Trade in: http://www.canadianblackbook.com/bla...lometers/25000 Private sale: http://www.canadianblackbook.com/bla...le/4D%20Sedan/ Typically you're very lucky to get close to the CBB value on a trade in, even more so on a high demand car. IMO, they gave you a "fair" offer for a trade in. If you want a truly fair price your only option is to sell privately. The benefits to a trade in are ease and saving the taxes on the value traded in. Did you ask for clarification on the price? It's very possible that one price was just vehicle price and the other include freight, PDI, etc. At the end of the day, dealers can be picky with who they sell these cars to since the demand is so high. If they're going to have to fight with you to sell a car, and cut into their profits they'll just cut their losses and wait for the next customer to come in and take your spot. If you want a good deal on them you'll have to either be really close with the dealership already, or wait until the demand has fallen off and they're sitting on lots unsold for a while (might be waiting a long time for that).

Don't argue. Just nicely say that you think they can give you a little more for your car, or throw some options on the car your buying to balance things out. I came within a few hundred dollars of getting 'Excellent' trade-in from KBB/Nada on my trade and there were no mark ups on the BRZ, aside from the stupid fees. I have come to learn that you have to play nice and be professional about the whole deal or else they'll end up treating you the same way as you treat them.
Oh, and as others have said, if you don't buy it, don't worry, the next guy definitely will. My dealer told me the exact same thing. In fact, he told me that they have not been able to keep a BRZ on their lot for more than a week. I supposedly got the last BRZ in September and they did not receive any until mid-late November. And go figure, they added options to it and marked up the value on the car. Guarantee you someone will buy that car too without talking them down. |

In your day to day dealings with people, if you show attitude they're going to show some attitude back. Another way to put it is: If you act like a jerk you'll be treated like a jerk. That's not just when buying cars that pertains to pretty much everything you do in your life time.

Wow you guys need to re read what I wrote.
When I walked into the dealership the guy didn't even bother to even explain the car. The whole time he was in his office while I am in te showroom looking around the car. I also should say that I put down 5k when I picked up my civic so at least I expect to get some of it back. Looks like this whole forum is full with people who are either car sales Men or work at a dealership lol. My buddy traded in his 07 Si with more miles than mine for 17500$ do I expect that my car is two years newer and has less miles would at least get me close to what they offered him. I am buying their car I don't have to kiss their asses to get the car. The ball is in my field now. Ya selling a car worth more than 14k online can be a pita but would rather do that than take a lowball from the dealership. Why so you expect me to do when he just told me that he can't do anything and I am just waisting his time? After a few reaserched on my local forum looks like almost everyone who wanted up buy a Subaru or bought one from that dealership got screwed up. |

I was not being a jerk at all.
I shouldn't have said arguing I should have said that I told him my car is worth at least a little more than what he offered |
