Could be testing out engine/transmission/suspension for a potential BRZ STI or the new WRX/STI.

Just because the official sheetmetal has been revealed doesn't mean the OEM instantly casts aside their test mules. It's not just probable but likely they're still sorting out the USA ECU calibration for emissions, drivability, and fuel economy. Here in Detroit you see mules all the time for a variety of reasons.

This is probably true I see Ford mules all the time by the plant in Claycomo, Mo

Welcome to 2009. Just because it was reposted recently on youtube doesn't make it new.

Durability testing. Etc. Could be any number of things. There were still LFA test mules rolling around up to a couple months ago. Not sure about right now.

The inspection sticker on the car looks like it says 10.. as in 2010 to me.

The first one is definately old, the second one may be newer, but it's still meaningless.

I don't think it is meaningless. They could be doing durability testing as matador said, but I am more prone to believe it is either testing for BRZ STI or the new WRX and STI.

They've been doing that for years

I'd suspect WRX, as have others.

I meant meaningless as it doesn't impact the production car coming out in a few months.

Oh ok, didn't realize that is what you meant from your comment. But yes, I would agree in that regard. However, it isn't meaningless if it is testing of the BRZ STI. Cause that would have my attention.

At this point I'd assume that they'd just use one of the BRZ bodied testers for that instead of that mule, they have more than a few of those now and any BRZ specific testing would likely be done there since the different fitment of the driveline could cause issues if they didn't. I doubt we'll ever know exactly what they are testing but a Fx16 DIT for the WRX would be a likely bet IMO.
