I want this to be true, but based on everything else in the article, I don't believe it at all

Yes that is strange story that one
Have I missed something but 2ltr I thought I read it would be a 1600 engine ?
Basic more for the enthuasist
Interesting as subarus in the uk although well equipped normally have a very basic/ practical interior

Price point intersting
As pointed out above Subaru desperately need something in the 20-22k price bracket since the wrx and wrxd disapeared maybe the BRZ could be the answer
I had budgeted on 25-29k so I can maybe spec it up with a few toys
Roll on the motor show

No its definitely 2.0 engine.

Just got a reply from Jim Holder (AutoCar editor) on Twitter after I questioned the price:

"@DCassey Subaru is the 'focused' one, Toyota gets the toys"

That sounds good
I can live with out the toys and can spend more on handling and performance mods

However, since they're quoting someone, it means it's entirely possible the Subaru may be the "low spec" and the Toyota the "high spec". The problem with that is I cannot envision the Scion being a higher spec than the Subaru here in the 'states. Oh man, that would blow if the USA got stuck with two low-spec models
Bro I hear you.

The scion will be high spec. The subie will also be high spec. If you look at the high spec it's not that loaded. It has less than the 2012 tC rs 7.0...except for the hids and auto climate control. It don't even have a radio.

Show me what toys are in the high spec?
There is no navigation, no radio, no sunroof, no leather seats (they are optional). You get aluminum pedals, push button start, higher seat fabric, leather steering wheel, hid headlights with led accents, fog lights and 17 inch rims. How is this a loaded car? That's basically what is in the base model 370z except for the fog lights and led accents.
The ft-86 high spec actually has less than a base 370z
