I believe that dealer will not install for you for free. They likely rip you off on accessories and labor. You can find better deal on TRD parts online, search around, you will save a lot of money.
I would get other well-known branded aftermarket parts. They will be a lot cheaper than TRD parts, and I can have tuner/auto shop install them for me for less cost than stealership charge. [/offtopic]

If you buy the parts at the same time you are buying the car, they may do install for free. There's such a large markup on accessories that even if they have to eat the 2-3 hours of labor, they're still making a lot on the add on. Something to negotiate at least.

In club4ag a shop called K1 motor works sells Japanese oem toyota parts & sells them on the forum, when the FR-S comes out I'll ask for a group buy on the Modellista bumpers or TRD bumper parts if it turns out scion bumper sucks.
Here are the trueno kouki bumpers they sell

You can build your scion on the website and then take that to the dealer and have them order it and you pay for it with the car for the prices listed on the website.
most of the major items get installed at port and usually do not have dealer install fees, like if you chose the upgraded radios or wheels, a spoiler, exhaust, or lip kit. you do not "just have to take what they make", it doesn't quite work like that. you should be able to walk into any dealership and get only exactly what you want. Of course you may have to wait a couple weeks for when they get the car in after placing the order. Depending on your area, scion.com will offer some additional items that only the specific dealerships near you offer. if the dealer has their own specific option like a certain set of wheels or radio or if the item on scion.com mentions that it is dealer installed then that is all done at the dealership and will most likely have an install fee added then. now if you got your scion and LATER decide you want something added that would normally be taken care of at port or it wasn't available for some reason and you decided not to add it then. A dealer can and will charge you for install.

IMO, you get more bang for your buck ordering whatever kit after you buy the car so you can keep your stock parts just in case. If you order the TRD kit pre installed from the dealer ala build your own, the stock parts that you have already paid for when you brought the car and actually you own, will be returned back to the factory in something the dealers call a core system. I received this info from 4 dealers when I asked about the Five Axis kit and their advice was to buy the kit after so I wouldnt lose those stock parts.

when it comes to the lip kits offered from scion, you are only losing your stock side skirts, the front and rear bumpers are still the same, just now with a lip kit attached.
you only lose your stock side skirts. you have less initial up front cost when you order a port installed option. if you order it with the car, it is one price, but if you do it after the fact it could cost you more because it is now getting the dealer install added to it. with some options from scion, if it is port installed and you order it with the car, the price is lower since they take back the stock part and put it in another new car. unless you can do it yourself or know a place that can install cheaper, you can ALWAYS find the options much cheaper online and make it out even better.

If you plan on buying the parts/accessories after the sale of the car, I would recommend this site, as I used to work for them and they had the BEST prices on Toyota/TRD parts and accessories; pretty much wholesale cost + nominal shipping.
http://www.myscionwarehouse.com/ Or search "toyotamall1" on eBay for the eBay online store. Shipping is very quick and they'll keep you informed if anything is on backorder, as I assume might be the case with accessories for this car. You can then have it installed at your dealer, tuning shop or DIY; they'll include instructions for DIY installation. They are based in Sullivan Brothers Toyota Scion in Kingston, MA, and they're a top-rated seller on eBay with over 14,000 positive transactions! Ask for Dave Smith, tell him Corey sent you

I would never buy and build a car with all the extra shit from the factory. When you build a car on Scion/Toyota's website with all the shit from the factory, they build it that way and you pay the full price of the car plus the full price of the parts and you don't get the stock parts sent to you.
So, for instance if you buy them at the dealership and have them install them, they will give you the stock parts back and you can keep them for later or sell them to recoup some of the funds. The dealership may also have some agreements with a local tuning company that could source aftermarket parts for less money that are most likely better. A good example is the big brake kit they made for the GT86. It was something like $10K! You can get an STI kit for $2K or an identical kit from Stop Tech or Brembo for $7K and have the stocks if you want them. |
