They probably picked the 18 to closely match the weight of the OEM wheel. Those are OZ Alleggerita's, which is OZs lightest wheel available for our cars. The OEM wheel is just a bit over 20lbs each, these, at 17x7.5 are 15lbs. The 18x8s are 17.4lbs, getting them a bit closer to OEM weight.
