I, honestly don't know how constants on The Price is Right can get majority of the prices wrong. We are in the internet/information age, everyone should have at least some knowledge of retail prices especially since we Americans love to spend spend spend.
Btw, use to love watching the Price is right when I was a kid especially when they played that plinko game and the showgirls are attractive as hell. ![]() EDIT: Love the end of description of FRS; "2 liter engine, 6 speed manual transmission, RWD, and a carpeted trunk mat".

It's tough guessing the full retail prices of some things, especially when you're unfamiliar with the brand. Even a box of Frosted Flakes - regular price at Von's is $5.99, regular price at Target is $3.50. I don't know what the "manufacturer retail price" is.
As for cars, they usually give you a very bare minimum of information on the options it has. The FRS can vary $1k depending on transmission, and do they include destination fee in the price for the show? As for trips - those could be anything. I can get airfare from CA to most states for $3-400/ticket. But that's the Internet, non-refundable price. And hotel stays - again, I price shop a bit. But who's to say how much 3 nights stay cost at Embassy Suites if going off "full retail price"? Also, I watched 2 shows back to back recently - the end of "Let's make a Deal" and the start of "Price is Right". Both featured what looked like the same exact jacquzzi. One show it was $7k, the other it was $11k. Uh... ??? Pretty sure "Let's make a Deal" cheats: "You picked door #1, which actually contained the grand prize! But let's show you door #3 first while we switch what was behind door #1 and #2. Oh, look at that - now door #1 contains a donkey. Sorry." |

Didn't know that. My apologies to anyone that would take offense at it, none intended. Is there a more appropriate name for those type games?

With some products (jewelry for example), the actually price you pay is usually less than half the full retail price. If you won jewelry as a prize, the taxes could exceed the value. (that said, prize income can be offset by ALL incurred expenses associated with winning that prize. On a TV show, I'd deduct all travel, lodging and food costs, along with any clothes purchased to wear, etc. to reduce income tax liability.) In many cases, you can opt for a cash prize instead. |
