Remove rear seats and seat belts
Remove carpet
1 piece racing seat for the driver
Braille lithium battery
Remove spare wheel
Drain windscreen washer bottle
Remove sound system

Long term:
Investigate single exit exhaust,ie remove one side of the "y". (I'm not sure if dual exit exhaust has a performance benefit or if it is just cosmetic).
2 piece front rotors if not already fitted.

With the exception of the exhaust all these items have been removed from my existing car.

Carbon fibre bonnet/hood is not happening as it is not legal here.

Anything I have missed?

That would be true for a lot of cars, but the FT86 has a transversely mounted single muffler at the very rear of the car (like the newer Impreza). You can see it in this spy shot. For reference here is a photo of a stock 2008 STI catback

Of course it's unsteerable when you're not moving, even cars with factory manual steering would be. You need to get the car rolling first, otherwise you're basically trying to drag the tires across the pavement.

I still do not understand why people want to molest their brand new cars will such bullshit as "weight loss" because first of all, this car is going to be light stock. Making it 90lbs lighter with taking all that stuff out is not worth your time especially removing rear seats and carpet. the rear seats on most cars do not weigh more than 35-40 lbs and the carpet weights like 2 lbs max. Cutting the rear seatbelts will make your car illegal to hold more than 2 people the spare might weight 15-20lbs with the jack and good luck if your tire goes flat.
Bottom line its not going to be worth it to buy a new car and drive around with only 1 or 2 seats no carpet no stereo nothing pretty much but an engine.... if you really want "light weight" you should look at a motorcycle or spend your time elsewhere like installing suspension or brake mods.

You are suggesting that your view is the only one everybody should have.
There are many 2 seater vehicles on the road. Just have a look at the number of MX-5. This is my project. You are not obliged to like it.

If you have read my original post you would have read that my existing car has been on most of this diet.

I think the best one was Drain windscreen washer bottle

cynic, if you want to lighten the car, I highly suggest the threads that have been posted already. It has been beaten to a pulp already.

How about removing the power steering, a/c, abs motor, going with a single fan, smaller aluminum radiator, remove the sound deadening material, center console and plastic panels.

I know people have different views but not many people like a new car from the lot with nothing inside and having the chassis exposed. It is more generally accepted however, to buy an old project car like the AE86 that is cheaper for purely tracking purposes. The type that might not even be street legal. Its all or nothing, if your not tracking your car more than once or twice a week its again not worth it. If you are and are not the fast and the furious, then take the same stuff out of your car that you said along with the door panels if you want.

once again you are offering a personal view. True, I do not track once or twice a week. I hill climb about 6 times a year, motokhana 4 times a year and track about 10 times a year. For me the weight reduction is worth while.

Oh, you should still replace the exhaust. Aftermarket headers/catback ought to be ~10-15 kilos lighter than stock. All I meant to say was that between aftermarket exhausts the second exit doesn't really add much weight, so there isn't the usual weight benefit that people associate with switching to a single exit exhaust (when compared to an aftermarket dual exit exhaust).

Usually, the single exit cost less.

weight reduction is nice but if you are going to get that crazy with it you probably should just start off with a lighter car. you are just paying for things you are going to throw away. just buy a 7 or elise or miata. if that isnt practical a gutted ft probably isnt either but instead of dropping 25k on an ft just buy an old miata to gut and a nice civic to dd
