I myself was very interest in going the NA route and after all my research...well my pockets aint that deep. Keeping the Motor would be as close to the AE86 would be great but expensive. I threw about 6 maybe 7k into my old RSX-S and maybe got 240hp maybe 250hp. With that much if i went FI i could have easily popped 300+. Then again when its all said and done im only looking to get between 250 and 300hp out of my FT eventually.

Twin turbo or centrifugul blower, hopefully with a TRD tune and factory warranty.
Done. Charge me whatever. I'm not particularly excited to experiment with tuning a DI engine just yet... especially on a brand new car. As far as pulling the motor and rebuilding it...? At least for me, pass. NA builds are often highstrung, expensive, run erratically, and give you far less bang for the buck than boost. Also, you can demolish a NA engine just as easily as a FI engine. Why tear down the motor if you don't have to? Why spend thousands for relatively small gains? I'm sure someone will do it -- and best of luck to them. Just give me a simple FI solution to bump the power up closer to 250 or 275 bhp and I will cheerfully hand over my money. |

I think the simplist route for more power for this motor is going to be a full exhaust and a tune for 100+ octane. I got about 15hp from an intake + full exhaust on my N/A impreza without tuning, but IMO the intake on this car looks like one thing that might not need modifying (other than a filter and maybe a snorkel delete).
I wouldn't be surprised if someone develops a nice intake manifold (maybe ITB's) for this car after awhile, but right now there aren't any for the EJ N/'A motors other than a handful of custom made ones. Internal mods to get the engine up in power... No idea until we get more details about the block. But a N/A Subaru motor with a 7500 redline and 200+hp is the best that any N/A Subaru motor has done power wise (Although there was a JDM "EJ20R" Legacy that did like 193ps with a 7000+ redline). |

Springs, Shocks, Sways, Bushings Cam, Lid, magnaflow catback, BBK intake manifold, LS7 lifters, ECU tune. good for 400 hp. sure its fast, but it drifts like a boat. |

![]() To make the post more constructive: Tuning your car is about personal taste. Unless you're using the car as a means to put money in the wallet (ie: racing and earning cash doing so), then its really all up to you. If you want 300+ hp using nickle and dimes, or just want to hear whooooosshh and whiinnneeee all day to make you feel better, then go FI. If you enjoy crisp engine response and a redline that screams far higher than any normal car, or just the sound of an all engine build, do that. Just because one path nets a better 'bang for your buck' means diddly jack squat when it comes down to personal tastes. Its YOUR car, build it the way YOU want it. Using myself as an example, my only toy atm is my AE86. I'm obviously not starving and dying for super omg power atm, nor will this car every see the light of day past 250hp. I want all engine, high rev, screaming bliss to be coming out of my engine bay. To those who go FI I say 'congrats, nice build, have fun'. Not for me...at least not in this type of car (86 and FT-86). Not to say I won't ever own an FI car....far from the truth...I have plans for a power monster, oh yes indeed. |

Exactly how 'open' the ECU will be will determine the price effectiveness of running ITB's. Traditionally, the additional cost of having to run and stand-alone setup puts the price marker much higher than most people consider. If you can really get in there and reprogram the shit out of it...then hell, that lowers the price considerably.

Individual throttlebodies? It's drive-by-wire.

I like the idea of NA tuning vs. turbo but I'm planning to wait a couple of years before doing anything more than just bolt on mods for the engine. I'd rather see a few other people put some miles on reliable set ups before I take the plunge.

Are you suggesting drive by wire setups dont have throttle bodies?
