I actually like that answer, how unexpected circumstances bring about the positive... As far as weight goes, I had a similar experience, different circumstances.. Had a 21st high school reunion, and at that point I had been drinking more than I should have (beer and the hard stuff).. had gained alot of weight from that and eating more, to soak it all up... So there was no way I was going show up at a 21st like that.. Went on a 7 day fast to get myself started, lost a bunch of weight and believe it or not, never drank again except for a holiday drink here or there... As far as the front seat goes, got 3 car seat cushions so that makes it that I don't pass out while cruising.. but not exactly what I invisioned for a shiny new car.. Last night I thought it may work out, but today was back to my doubts.. The dealer said he would buy the car back... waiting for the title before I make the final decide.. Might sound extreme, but that's how it's going,,, |

There was someone else on here, I forget who, that was also having back problems. He took it to an upholstery shop and if I remember correctly, they cut away some of the stock foam of the seat and replaced it with memory foam. Might be worth looking into.

It's hard for one seat to fit all drivers, Toyota and Subaru opted for a fairly supportive design for this car to match its sporting character.
At 5'7" and 130lb, I wish they were a little tighter. My 86 MR2 stock drivers seat has adjustable bolsters and I can get them perfect. That said, I have done a 150 mile stretch in the FR-S, and was quite comfortable. You can adjust the FRS/BRZ bolsters too--with some extra work, take the fabric cover off and add/remove foam as needed to make yourself comfortable. You can do the same with the back and bottom pads, and yes memory foam is great if you don't mind the cost. Aircraft Spruce and some racing shops carry it, but you probably don't need it, just sculpt the foam a little. If you don't want to do this yourself, any decent size city should have an automotive upholstery shop or two. This is a quick easy job for them. |

After a 7-8 hour trip to Monterey to watch some car racing not to long ago, my legs would hurt.. I'm used to laying in a more reclined position, (gangsta lean) I guess some car it.. But to me reclined is much more comfortable then sitting straight up and down.. I do have the seat upright and it seems to help more toward my lower back butt portion, but my lower upper legs, like by the edge of the seat just get sore... I might have a 12 hour trip to El Paso coming up and I'm not looking forward to it.. But for my regular commute these seats don't give me a problem... For me personally.. Best seats ever have been my 93 ford probe gt

I've driven 400+ miles at a go, no issues here. I had a bad back from getting hit about 8 years ago, all cars hurt my back after about an hour or two, this is the first that HASN'T!
I did lean it back a bit more than I'm used to and raise it up. Also pulled the wheel out as far as it could go since I'm 6'2". The headrest kills my neck if I sit too upright. Just drove my wife's new mustang a similar distance, and it's just a bit comfier overall. It did start hurting my lower back a bit no matter what I did with the lumbar adjust. It's like driving a couch (sporty one) while the BRZ is like driving one of those ass fitting Danish plastic chairs, or whatever country they are from. It's firmer but still has no noticeable pressure points. Drive a few miles, adjust something, drive a few more, adjust something else. I'm sure most people that actually fit between the bolsters will be able to find a good spot. If you are too wide it could get REAL uncomfortable I'd think.

Just wanted to hop into this thread and say you aren't the only one.. I drive around 70 miles each day and by the time I get home I'm miserable from the seats. It is definitely in the shoulder(ish) area that causes the most discomfort. I'm still playing around with backrests and the like but am not happy to already be considering replacing the seat(s).

so after 4 months has anyone come up with a solution?
i have the same problem with the shoulder area and the headrest. i flipped the headrests around but that puts them very far from my head. has anyone tried to bend the headrest bars to get it a little more upright instead of leaned forward? this weekend i think i'm going to pull the seat covers and see if i can't get the shoulder sides to stick farther to the side and less to the front. |

Get a memory foam lumbar support back pillow from brookstone. Redistributes the pressure on your lower spine, and you can move it around to the best position. Plus, when you don't want it just remove it.

I'm 5'10", 155 lbs. and love the seats. I have a suggestion that might or might not work. I've said before that it would be a stretch to call our cars exotics but they do enjoy some of the features offered by exotics. One of those things is the seating position. The car and the seats were designed for a "laid back" style of driving. Depending on what habits we developed in our previous cars, some of us tend to drive in a straight up position. Lean the seat back to the rear quite a bit, move the bottom of the seat further forward till your feet comfortably reach the pedals and adjust the steering wheel for arm length. If you already do that then yes, you need to work on the seats themselves. If you don't do that, give it a try. An added benefit to this is there will be about 8" between the back of your head and the head rest. Some people have driven in such an upright position the head rest was a problem. That shouldn't be. At first it will seem strange, as changing habits often will, but it is a very pleasurable way to enjoy the car.

I have a BRZ limited and I hate the seats, way too hard. I am 5'5" and 110 pounds and these seats are driving me crazy, enough to want to get rid of the car. no real problem with the back but the seat seems to have a lump in the middle and is so hard it's killing my legs and rump. any suggestions on a seat cushion ?
