Why talk about it, when you can get it in writing in the form of a warranty? The dealer will tell you whatever they think will ease your mind in order to get your money...

And it's probably not a good practice to determine the reliability of a car based on a bunch of hammerheads posting to car forums...

Just some silicon spray or WD-40. Worked for me too!

Thanks for that post! Mine started doing this a few weeks ago and it's starting to drive me nuts. Even if this turns out to only be a temporary fix, it'll work until I can get to the dealer. How long ago did you spray yours?

I sprayed it on the day I posted it (9/21). It hasn't popped even once since then.

To OP. I understand why you're worried. I would be too if I were to buy one now. If you're worried, then you should wait for a few more months. I think CEL is a serious issue, Toyota is taking it seriously, and it probably will be solved soon. Then you will be able to get one with no worry and just be excited and enjoy the car.

There are way more cars without issues than with. Like thousands without and a hundred or more with. I would not pass with those odds.

I'm at 4,000 miles on my BRZ. No issues at all. Got my car on June 15th.

I'm with some of the other posters here- you shouldn't make your decision based on "problem" threads on an internet forum. I've purchased 3 cars since internet car forums became a big deal, and all have had such threads on specific items. On my last car, '02 Sentra SER, there was much hullabaloo about oil consumption and transmission problems, but I and many others never experienced such trouble, not that there weren't cars that had them, but it was apparently a small percentage given the reputation for reliability these cars have over time.
The FR-s is marketed by an extremely reputable company with a history of standing behind their products. If you have a problem, I have no doubt that Toyota will fix it. I owned a Toyota pickup once that had the paint start to peel off of the primer after the first year (I think warranties were only a year then), and they repainted the entire cab totally free, even though the truck was technically out of warranty. With the warranties on the FR-s, I think you should decide based on what you like about the car, not the negative comments posted on this or any other forum. If you don't accept this, go to a few other car forums and see if you can find one that doesn't have problem threads, and you will see what I mean. If you made your decision based on this factor, you'd by a bicycle instead.

Don't buy one until they fix the CEL and chirping problems. Why deal with the potential headace?
