why would Toyota release the car as a scion when it's attention is to liven up TOYOTA's Image?
Secondly, @ +$20K, it's a bit over the price range of a scion. Add the usual accessories etc etc etc, and the price of this car will go WAY up Lastly, since when did dealer reps ever actually know anything? I call BS. |

A 2010 well-equipped Scion tC benches in at $22k, fyi. At least around here. Its easy to see that a mid-trim model FT would slide right in as the "top of the line" scion model. Its all speculation anyways but something in my gut tells me the Toyota of America execs are just gonna push this into a Scion for the sake of saving its American image as the "moving forward" eco-friendly / practical automaker that made them topple GM. I pray I'm wrong but I'm not holding my breath. Maybe I just don't like getting my hopes up anymore. |

Don't really want to be argumentative, but since when can Toyota USA execs override what Toyota Japan says? Furthermore, a Scion tC is $17,800. This is with pretty much everything standard. Anything after that would be dealer installed options, which more than likely, the FT would not come with standard (If it even comes as well equipped as a base tC...which it probably won't). This is the way scions are sold. Don't you work at a Toyota dealership? Add $4k to a ~$22k FT and the price jumps to $26k. Not exactly Scion pricing scheme is it? |

I for one do not believe this will be a scion, simply because the car, from all known sources so far will be manufactured @ FHI in Gunma, and to my knowledge, all Scion cars thus far have been built on US land, with the exception of the xB which is a rebadged version of the toyota bB.
All in all, it seems unlikely that this car will be a Scion. |

To be honest, I saw this car about 2 years ago, in STK House in Manhattan, when I sat down with Jack Hollis (Scion VP of US) and a few other scion folk for dinner. They asked what we wanted to see in the new models, obviously we said RWD, 6speed.
And then up on the projector screen, is a picture of what we now know as the FT-86. It was just a sketch, but it is VERY VERY close to the 86 concept. At the time, I did not think it would be coming out as a Scion. Now that I recall this, I am pretty much convinced that it will be a Scion.

If you look at the list of most ticketed cars, most wrecked cars, cars repaired for maintenance, etc, Scion is topping those list. I also know that Scion, specifically the tC is 2nd most ticketed and the xB is 3rd. They are both high on insurance and this is because young people drive them like idiots.
If the 86 came as a Scion, it would make sense because I know its gonna be wrecked more than a corolla, and probably more than a tC since the 86 is lightweight and rwd. So overall reports of the tickets and wrecks in this car will be on Scion's shoulders instead of Toyota so Toyota could keep its image as 'safe'. I don't know for sure if Scion is just branded as Toyota in those cases tho. Sources: http://autos.yahoo.com/articles/auto...r-a-cop-magnet own one |

However, they are not sold in Japan at all, strictly US and now expanding into Canada.

its all good.
personally i hope the car is built in japan. if dollar for dollar you get the same value and fit/finish of the tC, i will be pretty happy. I am yet to see an American car that costs 17k that compares to the quality of a scion.
