I'm going to guess along these lines maybe? (ofcourse with a more restrictive exhaust, but who's going to keep it stock for long right? )

Eh? Maybe I'm lost... though you were talking about the Z since you sounded like you had experience with the JWT setup.

As for the FR, I imagine there will be a way to make it sound good but I'm not sure that it will be the best performance-wise. If it is as small as we expect the latter would be more important.

I didn't really care much on the Z since none of the aftermarket intakes offered much hp/tq improvement. Nissan had that stock system tweaked pretty well.

The problem with aftermarket intakes is they make noise, but don't give much more HP. The same goes for axle back exhaust. I would rather enjoy the factory comfort and performance.

However, hearing the cam advance is like the transmission downshifting.

Personally I'd like it to be as quiet as possible in low (<3k) RPM.

Other than that I don't really care wat it sounds like as long as its not a fart can.

As long as you don't buy eBay fart can exhaust system, you will be okay

I think it depends on the intake system. I've used some in the past that are as quiet as stock. The performance gains also vary by application. In some situations the gains are non-existent but in others they can add 10+ hp/tq. I'm not sure how a high revving N/A flat 4 will respond though.

For exhaust though, even factory 'sports exhausts' are too restrictive in my experience and are too muffled. Like ichi said though, try to avoid the fart cans and shop around.

I'm sure they will use some kind of VVTi on the flat 4 and it would be nice if they did some acoustic engineering to make the cam advance more pronounced.

BTW, I vote for the India Ferrari.

Yes, it's the UEL that make the "Subaru burble."

It's going to be tuned from the factory so I don't believe it will be "whiny." It will probably sound a bit different than a stock 2.0L Honda SI but it won't compare to the ebay exhausts.

Have you heard the confirmation by SOA blog that Yamaha was involved in the engine?

And Subaru uses AVCS which is timing advance/retard. I think they have a multi-cam system but the AVCS is the one I am aware of.

I think there has been confirmation by SOA of Yamaha's involvement recently... even though Toyota has already said it for months. It will be interesting to see what it sounds like in stock form. From the spy videos so far it sounds pretty low key and a bit Si-ish. I avoid ebay junk like the plague, regardless of the application.
