As mention earlier though the "non refundable" deposit only applies if the car shows up and the buyer says i don't want it now. Any such deposit should have a time limit. My local dealership doesn't even stock the 86 (as far back as 2017). They just got sick of tire kickers and people that wanted them for below cost so give their allotment away. If you want one you have to order with the non refundable to prove you are serious. Now, when there were any available they would just bring whatever was ordered in from another dealership so the wait was not long. That is what I had to do with the Hakone. They brought it in from across the country after I paid the deposit.
Oh yeah, we have signed agreement on price and what is expected at delivery. IE, tell your guys NOT to wash the car. So I can immediately drop it off for ceramic coating.

Thankfully, I don't have to worry about trade-in. I haven't had a car since March of last year, well technically it's my name, but the fiance pays for it.

I had a pretty gnarly NC1 (MCS remote DAs, MX5 cup brakes, full exhaust and tune, etc etc) but it was a bit extreme and I was never driving it, because it got delivered right after the pandemic started. I put like 900 miles on it in a year.

We both from work from home, so we've just been sharing the little '18 Mazda 3 I got when I traded in my '13 135.
