It's branding. Scion was always below Subaru and Toyota above it.

Subaru also has better leasing. If you bought a Subaru recently they have a loyalty 1% off the lease rate. So cheapest lease is 0.99% which I am quite certain Toyota won't match.

Always been like that in Canada. the 17+ GT's costed more than BRZ Sport-Tech RS trim albeit not having brembos or sachs dampers. However, I am an ae86 fan so had to buy toyota

The financing interest rares are bonkers too. In Montreal, it's around 5.99% for a 24 months location vs 1.99% at Subaru.

You can blow all the hot air you want against Toyota but I wouldn't want to be the second owner or higher mileage owner of Kia or Hyundai cars.

Toyota has many years of proven reliability with many of their engines and transmissions, and a whole lot of their individual components compared to most manufacturers.

Take a fully equipped Kia or Hyundai and do a detailed scan on it when it's at 100,000 mi, if they can get there.

Do a bit of searching online at the cars that seem to most frequently reach high mileage without any major repairs.

Or, if you feeling that Toyota cars are a little more money and less space techy looking or innovative buy something else. Resale values on most Toyotas are among the best, so I guess the public has spoken.

Now, regarding the GR86 pricing disparity vs Subaru, if they are able to get more money for a car that costs the same or less, more power to them. I prefer the Toyota front fascia, but if I was in the market for another twin there is no way I'd pay $2K more for the Toyota. So, either the dealership saturation in North America enables them to do this, or there will be some type of adjustment at the pricing/incentive level. Why would dealers want to stock a vehicle they can be under sold on in an instant? I wouldn't try to make them sell for invoice to match Subaru pricing, that's simply not fair. I'd just go to Subaru if Toyota offered nothing but embarrassment when confronted with the price disparity.

If you really want that darker blue though you are SOL with Subaru Canada, only Toyota offers it.

That Neptune blue is nice, but I am not sure it is worth 2k. Plus forces you to get the premium trim, another 3k. All this with a banging 5.99% financing rate. No thanks.

Get your financing elsewhere?

As I'd be getting the higher trim anyways and buy with cash, and I don't like the other colours, it would be worth it to me.

You can definitely get financing elsewhere, the point is financing is usually a selling point, not a burden. They are basically making 4points on top of what they pay. Hopefully things will settle down as inventory grows, and "special rates" start to appear.

Not dumping on the higher trim btw, I think it is a nice blend, I just have sob stories with 18s and 40 series tires , a string of cracked/bent rims (drove in Quebec for a while, that stuff stays with you, potholes become a source of stress...).

Wish we could get the RC spec like in Japan, radio delete with steel wheels, for 2k less than base. I'd take that in a heartbeat.

Toyota will do 84m finance vs Subaru at 60m.
People will probably shop based on monthly/biweekly payments.
84months @4.99. 60months @ 4.7 or 4.3%. Can't remember when is spec'd one for fun the other day. A base GR86 OTD was 38k all in.

The 2017 86 was more expensive than the BRZ. For whatever reason Toyotas command a premium.

Those numbers if negotiable are still not great, and Toyota website says 5.99% for 60 months.

And this is a great example of why they shouldn't.

BRZ and GR86 are basically the same car, and on a fair market they would have the same price ±$100 out the dealership door if paid with cash.
The depreciation curves should be the same: an N years old 2022 BRZ with M miles on the odometer will also be worth the same amount as an N years old GR86 with M miles on the odometer.
So whether you are financing or leasing, assuming the same interest rate the payments should be the same ± a couple of bucks.

If they're vastly different, then either the interest rates are very different (go to a different bank?) or estimated initial price / depreciation curves are different (so lease if you pick the one with the lower lease payments, finance / pay with cash if you pick the other one).

If you want to lease then sure. Finance rates are cheaper. Not saying they're great, but the dealer can buy down the finance rates.
deals seem to be on any clear out models left on lots. I doubt there will be any this year but maybe in 2-3 years time.
My 2017 was offered with 0.99@60, 72 and 84m when I bought it.

Lease

Fiance @84

Finance @60

Even 4.69% financing with current base rate is ridiculous. But you are right, they will have to swing some deals sooner or later. I am waiting for Nissan Z to drop, if it is even close to quoted numbers it will even out the playing field. 0.99% sounds like my kind of financing...

Same here. I was able to get $1260 off of MSRP on my 2017 Inazuma (Series Yellow). Plus, I was only charged 0.90% on the amount financed. Even though my 2006 STi (which I kept until 2019) was to old to qualify for the -.1% loyalty discount the dealer dropped the .09% in good faith as my wife bought her 2011 STi new from them.
As I've mentioned before I was terminated from my job the day before I was to pick up my Inazuma which made the contract void. No yellow car for me.
A year and a bit later, (after I'd settled the law suit with my former employer) I went out and bought a 2018 BRZ tS. I got over $1600 off MSRP and was only charged 0.05%. So I financed the whole amount over 60 months. Dontcha just luv it when a plan comes together!
