When I was serious about audio I had friends online that competed nationally at sound quality competitions. They weren't using brands that are commercially popular. But if you go over to the forums they frequent, aka https://www.diymobileaudio.com/ and the like, there are several people that keep up with all the inexpensive options that get very good sound quality for a lot less. I don't keep up with it much any more, but I know these popular national brands aren't always remotely good.
