Yes, I was interpreting the movement that way. It really seemed like a lot of slop, but apparently that may be normal.










Since the noise seems to have come a bit after I had replaced the bearing, I'm going to check the torque of the shaft bolt tonight with my nice new torque wrench and see if that's the issue.

Follow up:

I took your advice and used my shiny new torque wrench on that CV axle nut. The problem seems to be gone. I confess that I don't fully understand. That is, tight is tight, but if it fixed it, I'm not complaining.
