It is sad that young people today don't know how to manually lock their cars and it won't be long until they all automatically lock and the skill will be lost forever.

Sounds like a driver missing his stick ...

It's not a setting I've ever heard of, and not listed on Carista's site.

Plenty of links out there to ODB II pucks as well as a thorough Arduino write up.

The information is all on CAN, you need something to connect the dots.

I was able to adjust the speed at which my old Audi A4 locked its own doors. I used a program called VagCom and a cheap $20 USB - OBD2 cable.

I believe the software for Toyota that you want to use is called “Techstream” but I don’t know much about it. I’d start your search with that.

Yes many things are configurable in techstream, but it's not a magic programmer to change everything. it allows for the configuration of options that are set to be configurable in the software.

Things I've changed on my car with a scan tool (the same options would be available in techstream):

Set auto headlights to turn on sooner as light fades.
Set auto headlights to turn off the instant the door pops open.
Set the dome light timer from 15 to 30 seconds.
Set the volume of the remote lock/unlock beep to maximum.

There was more, but there was no setting for auto lock doors.

Yes some imports do it, but it's mostly not as much of a thing as with American cars.

I have, mostly when in bumper to bumper traffic through seedier parts of cities. One time on route 1 in new haven connecticut it looked like some awful b movie, complete with a dude swinging a chain on the street corner.
