FWIW...Red Bull does this for adults...not kids. Same with Flugtag.

As for SBD cars being an entry into karting...not really. The SCCA starts kids karting competitively at 5y/o. By the time they are 8-10y/o they are faster than most adults (my co-driver's 6y/o was the fastest driver of 100+ participants a couple of events back).

I could see the argument that SBD is a good entry into other gravity-sports (street luge/bobsledding/ice luge), but not for motorsports.
