I have bad memoires of trying to find matching paint on my own in the past. I sometimes wake up screaming in the night. It is a fools errand and the chance of a successful match is remote (it does happen though). Fine if you are doing something with a dividing line but if blending is required just pay the extra $20 the body shop will mark the paint up and let it be their problem if it doesn't match.

Especially faded red paint - might as well figuring on repainting the whole damn car from the get go.

It was faded red paint.
GM Cardinal red to be exact. Even though it wasn't horribly faded it had lightened down to more of a Bishop red.
