It doesn't help that we just had a terrible ice storm and it's been in the single digits for 2 days so moving around is totally sketchy even for the fully able bodied. Otherwise I really do feel pretty good. Unfortunately I can't do anything about the two 60 foot trees that crashed down in the yard so they'll probably lay there until the spring.

Good to hear you are on the mend -

I had a stroke when I was about your age - pretty well messed up my right side (mostly, temporarily, fortunately). It took me a couple of years to get mostly recovered.

I suggest you keep on moving around. Don't worry about the downed trees in your yard, just let them age in place till summer, they will make better firewood that way -

You have 4.5 hours from the onset of symptoms to get TPA, an anti-thrombolitic. Our protocol allows 18 hours from the onset of symptoms to get recanalized where the clot is physically removed from the brain. I’m guessing you were outside the window.

Recent studies with stem cells applied to old infarcted brain tissue showed dramatic improvements to stroke scores within days. Between that, current interventions and Apple Watches (to detect a-fib early), having stroke deficits may be rare in the future.

Thanks.

Good to know.

I sure as hell don't want to do THAT again!

That's fascinating stuff. A few years ago I read about similar experimentation with stem cells in damaged heart tissue. Is that still a thing?

Here is an article addressing the strokes. Can’t say I have heard about heart ones. Typically there is rejection of transplanted cells and other complications.

They have used stem cells to grow nephrons in skin tissue of mice, so I’m sure there is research on hearts too.
