Oof, how much do you think it would cost to just get the front bumper bra'd?

And it's the same color as the 07 STi's white? My brother has one of those, I'm not sure how I feel about that color.

im kind of concerned the white doesn't have the same kind of "shine" the other colors do. does the metalic in the asphalt come through a lot? i've seen whiteout in person, but not asphalt.

If you guys have questions on color, just go find any subaru in satin white pearl. It is the same color and looks really good on this car. It is a $220 upgrade, but honestly its a great color. I get compliments on the shade of white all the time. I believe the 2011 sti is available in SWP as well.

636, I am not sure on the price to do a front bumper alone. Maybe $250-$300 from the right person? I was told it was a really easy car to clear because it has so many flat areas as well. Check your local forums and see who they recommend, then get a quote.

Clear bra has come a long ways since the old stuff we see yellowing on everyone's cars. Mine has a 6 year warranty on it. If it looks bad before that, it gets replaced at no cost. Most installers are pretty proud of the way newer applications are done. It will definitely keep the car looking great. Well worth the $ imo.

I was torn between both colors as well. I even had the choice available at the dealer same day. I originally was set on Asphalt but after reading up on the high demand for whiteout I started to really consider whiteout. I was concerned about having aftermarket pieces painted to match pearl white but saw that it was no problem as many pieces were being sold prepainted.
I was so close to choosing the whiteout but fortunately I convinced myself to stick with my gut and I went with my original choice of asphalt. I think the rainbowish glaze from the pearl was bothering me and I didnt see it growing on me in the long run. To each their own though.
Either way, I think the $220 is such an insignificant cost addition for this color if you really like it. I wouldn't even consider the $ as a factor. Color is a big deal. Good luck.

im leaning towards the white. do you think it makes it look too bulky? you know, since the darker colors are more "slimming"

I had the same decision to make when i ordered both colors but i was leaning towards asphalt but i wanted to see which will come in first... and i knew it was ment to be when i got the call and said the asphalt arrived before the white. Every time someone compliments me on the car they also compliment me on the color, i totally agree.. its so sexy to look at plus you dont notice that its dirty unlike the white. ive ran over puddles with my car and you couldnt even tell i have splash marks unlike my white car... so go for the Asphalt, you wont regret it.

People concerned about rock chips need to remember that the rest of the car, besides the bumper, will be silver underneeth the paint, which stands out more on a dark color. In general darker colors are much harder to maintain.

My Legacy was DGM, which is the same as Asphalt and I liked it. It didn't show dirt and was a great non "flashy" color

I definitely like the white on my BRZ more. Its a nice subtle pearl and I think the dullness to it will make door dings and other imperfections not stand out as much over the years.

However, this white is a 3-stage paint and will be more difficult for a body shop to match as well as be more expensive to repair.

Even my touch up paint cost more than the rest of the color line, because it came in two bottles.

In the end its pretty subjective.

If you drive 1000 miles without a clear bra on the white, you will have a polka dot dalmatian front bumper.

The paint is that bad? My brother has a 2007 STi in SWP(Same color as the FR-S/BRZ) and after 45,000 miles...the front bumper is still in good shape.

I drove 500 miles and had about 3-4 rock chips that went straight to the black undercoat. Either this is thin paint or those were some serious rocks.

I had some rock chips after 1k miles but they were all from one event where I drove through a really bad construction area. There were 1-2" pieces of concrete raining on my car from people kicking them up in front of me. At one point several pieces where sitting on my hood rolling around. I was almost crying until I found an offramp to gtfo. Those are the only chips on the car. I touched them up and am putting a clear bra on the bumper today.

Im not even going to try to defend Subaru's paint quality, but all new cars have water based paint now for environmental reasons and tend to suck. Just something to think about before you get too down on your new car.
