I’ve had my Kartboy for 5 years now, it rattled at first but I did everything on this board and then some to finally get it quiet. I love it but would do IRP if I could do it again (although metal shift knob option only is meh).

I have a 2” shifter extension to counter the 1” drop of the short shifter and the notchiness. Mtec shifter springs are also a very cool and unique mod.

Oh, my …

I don't understand, do I have this right, you installed a short shifter then installed a 2" shifter extension to counter the 1" drop of the short shifter ??

If so, why for..??

Haha yes that’s right.

Short throw shifters have a much longer linkage below the shift boot to minimize the required shifter throw. Even though my setup sits 1” higher than stock, the throw is still much shorter and shifts feel much more positive. Kinda like a more tame version of what IRP did.

Plus I can still shift with my arm on my armrest which is the biggest necessity.

OK, I got the picture … sort of like back in the old days

Besides, when the 1-2 shift gets stubborn, the longer shifter would give you more leverage ….

I have the following setup and highly recommend it:
  • TWM Performance short shift kit
  • Perrin rear shifter bushing
  • MTEC shifter springs
  • MTEC clutch spring
  • Whiteline KDT923 (differential outrigger)
  • Whiteline KDT925 (differential)
  • Whiteline KDT926 (transmission)
  • Whiteline KDT922 (crossmember)
  • Millers Oils CRX 75W90 NT
  • Spiegler braided clutch line, custom made-to-order
  • JMP Coachworks Alcantara shift boot
  • WC Lathe Werks copolymer teardrop shift knob
Here’s a link to the TWM Performance short shift kit for our cars:

More expensive, IIRC also required cutting into mid-console. I didn't heard of as much rattling issues with it, but still IRP looks somewhat better choice in my eyes then CAE, at least if/when rattling will get sorted out. What i'd really wish would be converter from H gate pattern to sequential though

I've got one that doesnt rattle at any rpm, and its seemingly impossible to miss shift or gear lockout. CAE ultra shifter. About $1200 to my door and a month and a half wait if Hard Motorsports is out of stock. Shifting becomes knife edge like, exceptionally precise and firm, not for limp wristed drivers.

Throws from 2 to 3rd and others that go from the lateral to the medial positions will feel the most dramatic. A heavier knob will aid in smoothness, as will some quality gear oil like Motul, Redline, AMSOIL.

I have a knob n lockout from Aliexpress. Anodized aluminum which feels great in the hand.
Is the shift knob from aliexpress one of the MCE/MICIEI knobs? Ive been looking at this one

They were called MCE (machine cutting excellence) or something but these are them.
