Agreed. Port injection is supposed to keep everything nice and shiny, but I'm sure stuff can still build up to some degree, or at least also build up in other areas. Hell, even buildup in the exhaust could hurt performance.
Like I said, my anecdote is but one example, but in my case I definitely blew out a lot of carbon buildup. I'd love to see some concrete evidence based on lots of research and testing, but this sounds like the same kind of topic as the "should you follow the break in procedure" topic, where you don't see much proper testing, and only a bunch of opinions (mainly because proper testing would require a lot of money and time to accomplish.)

One more point on the matter... I have read through most every thread I can find about premature engine failures and while I haven't done up a spreadsheet or anything, it does seem that the significant majority of premature engine failures in these cars has been on cars used strictly for daily driving that don't get driven hard. And then of course the boosted examples. But I know there are plenty of people that drive these cars hard and are having them hold up fine. So, I had actually speculated before that maybe they do need to get driven hard on a regular basis. Why that would be, I have no idea.
Though, I really don't think that the FA20 has any of the buildup that one would expect on a car with only direct injection. I don't think that matter is a concern based off of the research that I've done so far on these engines. Maybe someone can correct me. |

Are you referring to an ongoing fiasco? I am not aware of any?

DI Seal memes in the 2013 MY range. Mines a later in that year production, like around 10 series time so im under the assumption my ECU tune is fine though. irregardless I rarely drive my car hard so I'm not concerned.

I reckon it doesn't hurt to run this engine up to red line from time to time .. but, I don't see why it would do it any good. I rarely run mine over 6,500 rpms .. I just don't have a reason to do so. Besides, at 6,500 rpms, it's about made as much power as its going to anyway.

You have to at least enough so the ECU won't unlearn how to do it. You might forget too.

As a fitness professional, I hear shit like this everyday. Or the similar, "I use the eliptical because it's easier on my (20yr old) knees" Or how doing weights is "dangerous"
