Like rovll what are your goals for this car? If you want to some day upgrade to a bbk look up info on the bbk you want, most companies will list what size wheel will clear. Then just go off that.
Trackday build !

Wider tire will have more tracking right?

Tire compound matters more than width. Unless you're competing, RE71R's are far from the best choice for you. They're great for one (maybe 2) hot laps, but will overheat really quickly on a track.

IMO, stick with 225's unless you're turbo or supercharged, CSG did a lot of testing and found 245's slower than 225's on stockish power levels at the tracks they were testing at. 245's on an 8" wheel are going to be slightly bulged and won't have the same steering feel, small difference, but if you're so concerned about steering feel that you don't want to risk shifting the scrub radius a little bit you'll probably want to stick with a 225 for an 8" wheel.

I'd look at something like an Hankook RS4, Maxxis VR-1, Dunlop ZII SS (or ZIII if they're out), etc over the RE71R's.
