Honest question - does anyone really think this car will ever get a real interior redesign? I don't mean minor changes, I mean actual makeover. I think in order to keep costs down, it's going to be the way it is for the run of the car.

That said, I would just like a little more thought put into some extra storage space. I've never been one for fancy "spaceship" interiors. I just want the important stuff to be easy to see and access. But I do need more storage. The "bin" under the climate controls is a joke. The console is the worst of all worlds. If anything, I'd like to see a functional arm rest. I was going to install the aftermarket one, until I realized it would remove the only place I can store my phone (right next to the outlet).

Also, fix the damned stereo control pad on the left side of the steering wheel. The Toyota version is a joke. Buttons are too small, don't register input well, and if I hit "+" more than twice quickly, it throws my radio into chaos.

I'd love to see the head unit are angled toward the driver (like the tC), but I don't think there's a realistic chance of that. Simple, cheap interior is one of the things that keeps these cars under $30K.

So to summarize: make a real armrest, make bin big enough for a phone, fix steering mounted stereo control, and I'm good. Oh, and if you want to kill the analog speedo, that's fine with me.

They will keep adding more doodads, gizmos and thingamabobs to make it seem upscale but no I doubt it will see any real changes.

The big question is when do you think the dollar store where they get the 1986 clock will run out of stock?

I like steering wheels without the middle portion so you can rest your hand during highway trips and not mess with the direction of the car.

My contour had one like that and I miss it.

The Ford GT did this as well.

I wouldn't mind a fixed, analogue tach with screens flanking it on either side for all your redundant info. If it went full digital, I guess that would be cool. I wouldn't mind choosing between a race-style bar or a generic round tach.

I agree that the controls for everything should be angled towards the driver and within quick reach, similar to the S2000. You don't need a center screen if it is in the gauge pod.

I like the interior the way it is, except for the dash hood (too reflective) and the analog speedometer (useless). And the rear seats, those are dumb too.

I wish they would spend less time on redesigning the interior and more time making it more powerful and/or lighter. But that's hard, so it's not going to happen.

There are not a whole lot of places to put it. I treat my car as a two-seater, keep the rear seat back folded down all the time and use the cavity formed by the seats themselves as storage. The seat delete kits that were briefly popular a couple of years ago get rid of the padding and make that storage area considerably larger.

I installed the US Scion OEM sliding armrest in mine. It doesn't look quite as good as the JDM flip up arm rest, but it's more functional because it's higher (for taller Americans) and it slides out of the way to allow access to the cupholders and outlet. My Iphone 5 will fit in the cupholder slot with the pad slid forward over it. Take the cupholder out and you have room for just about any phone.

That can't be it, unless it's a new regulation. Both Honda S2000 and 8thgen Civic+ had digital speedos only.

The analog speedometer is there because if they deleted it, customers would bitch and whine about it being missing.

I'd like a Siri or Alexa type robot person chiming in about my driving habits. Like complimenting on a clean heel-toe, or jeering me for a miss shift.

It happens already with my wife in the car, so might as well have a robot do it when she's not present.

Heh.

Yeah, I was just looking at the center bit wondering how they could make some room for my much-desires phone bin, and I thought - why not take out that crappy clock and move the other two buttons somewhere else? Could easily make room for a modern phone.

I'm talking about storage for small things in the dash or console: entry cards, wallet, phone, USB sticks, Star Wars figures, cans of Vienna Sausage, etc. Overall storage hasn't been an issue for me. Just throw bigger stuff in the "back seat."

Yeah, I looked at this one, but the thing is, if you slide it forward so you can - you know, rest your arm on the armrest - your phone has to go behind it, where I can't get to it (AT A STOP LIGHT), and it also makes charing kinda awkward. If you slide the armrest back so you can store your phone closer, there's no reason to have the armrest. Which is why I didn't buy it.

LOL at that Supra interior. "I know! Lets make it look like you are in an F1 car, and add this stupid tunell-looking thing your legs go in. Never mind the ergos."

Multi-function flat-screen LCD dash like an LFA for the 86. Setup how you want.

This is what I see:

Definition of wannabe
1 : a person who wants or aspires to be someone or something else or who tries to look or act like someone else
2 : something (such as a company, city, or product) intended to rival another of its kind that has been successful; especially : one for which hopes have failed or are likely to fail

Personally I'm interested in the car remaining as basic as possible. Keep all that extra crap for the white collar crowd, and for the above, not for me thanks.

I certainly noticed how Toyota ruined the 86 by giving it a bland interior for 2017 to suit the white collar crowd...sorry Toyota, if I need a replacement it's gonna be a BRZ.

Let's give it more power, make it harder riding, a more complicated front suspension, possibly remove the power steering, result, even more of a driver's car. Radio delete, why not.
