Finally a Miata coupe, and good looking too. Someone needs to make this happen. Ideally with the Miata 2.0 na engine but I'd take the Fiat 1.6t if I had to.

Something like that, set up more as a twisty-road grand touring car than a track car, would be interesting. Give it a bit more sound-deadening and a bit more power than the 86s, and I would be intrigued.

Hmm. I've already got a car that looks suspiciously a lot like that.

You know the engine isn't from Mazda right?

Again, we are talking about an engine (just the engine since the transmission is the NC Miata transmission and the remaining powertrain is Miata) and maybe some switches in the cabin. It pretty much comes down to whether or not the engine is any good and other than that, you're in the clear in terms of FCA's ability to mess anything up.

I thought it had the Miata engine but modified for a turbo? Wow, that thing is doomed if it's a FCG engine LOL

That looks a lot like the Datsun 280Z I used to own a long time ago which is a very good thing. Unfortunately I owned a 70s era Fiat 124 so I have to agree with the guy that is dissing Fiat reliability. And do not tell me that times change because Chrysler/Fiat has one of the lowest reliability and quality ratings of any car manufacturer selling cars in the US. The multi-air turbo engines are one of the bad points. So, even though the car is beautiful, I would never consider buying it based on my experience and research.

Maybe it is a good thing that it is probably just Autocar click-bait.

I personally owned a 2013 500 Abarth C (convertible) with that exact same engine. It ran like a clock. Not a single hiccup for 3 years. Ridiculous fun. Add to that, no actual owners of the same car I talked to during that time report any major issues either. Sadly had to return it because I needed something bigger next to the FR-S. It was a great car.

Not sorry to say but Fiat haters who've never owned a modern Fiat with that engine are pretty much talking out of their asses.

Dissing a car company because of poor marketing and dealer support from 40+ years ago is the same as saying you'd never buy a Ford because they made the Edsel at one time.

It's nice that there's some anecdotal evidence from one person, but I'm not talking about past as in far back. Read up on the new Fiat 500 once it landed on US shores this time around. It has been the LEAST reliable vehicle by the stats from companies that track this sort of thing. I'm not going to do the work for you since it takes nothing to do a 5 min google search. That's not anecdotal evidence, it's numbers from many sources that you'll find. That's not even to mention the failed safety IIHS rating- FCG is an irresponsible company that is good at marketing and not much else.

If this coupe is a real fastback and not styled like the Miata RF, then when it comes time to replace my FR-S I absolutely would buy one, assuming the rest of the market selection is like it is today. If I based my automotive purchase decisions on selective internet info alone, I certainly wouldn't have bought my FR-S in the first place.
