Oil doesn't go bad - it's born that way.

If I remember correctly in the owners manual it states that there is both a mileage and time limit for oil changes. In the early models I think it was 7500 or 6 months and was reduced to 6000 or 6 months later on. While the car is still under warranty I'd follow the 6 month guideline just in case...

Same situation as you OP, my home and work is only around 7~ miles apart.

But I still change it every 7 months, just to be safe.

I have a 2015 and barely putting 12k miles on it... almost 3 years later...

I don't see how time effects oil let alone a full synthetic. Mileage ofc but not time. If I did an oil change then left my car for 6 months without ever starting it I'm not going to change it again. That's absurd. Even though the manual states that I should waste that oil.

@Somerandom18 What I've heard is that moisture collects in the oil. If the car isn't driven often enough or at optimal temperature, then that moisture doesn't get boiled off out of the oil. You've probably heard about people finding sludge under the oil cap when they don't drive their car enough.

Moisture does not gather with the car just sitting. There is nothing drawing it in and there just isn't enough volume of air to produce any moisture. Moisture gathers if you only drive it short distances. It is a result of the combustion process. Even then it is only really bad if very humid out.

I have always thought the time interval for cars is a bit of a scam nowadays. Way back in history when they still used actual oil it could indeed lose some of it's properties just sitting in a car. The modern synthetics will stay good forever if not use or contaminated in some manner.

Follow the schedule until warranty is up and then change at the appropriate mileage.
RIP to my warranty. Have put on maybe 3000km since my last change, which would have been in March, supposed to do it in September. But, didn't have time before I left for out west, and won't be back until early October
