It's typical for them to look at aftermarket mods to see what's popular, then offer their version on the dealership floor. Seems to me that's what these two editions are.

"Sure, you can buy Brembos, stiffer bars, 18" wheels, stickier tires and a big wang, but then you gotta put them on. We can do it for you cheaper, and pre-assembled. Oh, and we'll make it look like a creamscicle for no extra charge!"

Pretty sure you get a bit more than stripes and an engine bay.

With the 860 you are paying as much as you would for a BRZ with PP but miss out on the upgraded wheels, shocks, and brembos.

It's funny, lots of vitriol against the car and no prices from any buyers. You guys really don't like it, do you? I think for the right price it looks great, I just have to wait for that. Best price I found was for $500 off MSRP. I think I would need to go lower than that to jump on it, though.

Love the interior and all the limited trim upgrades like the spoiler, fog lights, and underbody plates. I like the orange stitching much more than the red BRZ ones. And I'm not much for the PP wheels. They looked kinda funny to me in person and I much preferred the stock rims. Not to offend any PP lovers out there, but the PP rims remind me of those cheap plastic hub caps I used to buy at Pep Boys for old steel rims. I thought the single toned color of the 860 are the best stock rims of the bunch actually.

That being said, right now my leading contender is the 86 Hot Lava. That shade of orange I think is less shocking than Supernova/Solar. The deals on the base model are really really good right now. I just wish it had all the Limited trim bits of the 860. Do I jump on it, or just wait till next year and see if Toyota finally makes a Limited trim level? A Hot Lava limited might just be the perfect car.

I've heard some chatter about the possibility of a higher trim next year. Any thoughts on that?

It's not that I hate the 860, it's that I think they did a half assed job with the paint and I would be furious to have paid that much money for such a hack job.

That said, hot lava is a great color and I would love to have one. Regarding trim level, that is specifically the reason I bought a BRZ Limited instead of a Premium or an FRS. They're the same car underneath, but I wanted the additional nice bits. It's a shame the BRZ doesn't come in hot lava.

People here seem a bit sour on it for the price, but has anyone gotten it? What can I expect to pay? The BRZ side of the board has a new similar thread going on like this. It looks like people have been getting killer deals there.

Thanks,

Are you referring to my thread? In your situation, you gotta ask yourself do you really want a special edition car? Remember no matter how much we all love the car, 86/BRZ is a mass-produced Japanese entry level sports car, nothing more. A special edition car doesn't come with any power increase or significant performance upgrades (correct me if I'm wrong, never paid much attention to the 86 side) for that matter won't be that special after 5, 10 years. Get an idea of how much people have paid here, keep that in mind, start emailing all dealerships within a 100-mile radius and ask for their best price, go to the one that can match or beat the best deal here.

The dealer near me has a white 860 priced at just over 30k, they also said they don't sell very many.

Halo White 860 owner here. Sticker was $30,800. I am also a Toyota salesman. There is only about $700-$800 of markup from invoice. Walk into the dealership, tell them you are ready to buy, you have good credit and tell them that if they are willing to show you the invoice cost of the car you will pay $200 over that price and you will be driving off in your new car shortly there after. The $200 allows them to pay the salesperson his minimum commission and put a sold vehicle on the board.

What does all of the speculation of the future of the 86 matter? There are only a few questions you need to answer.

1. Do you like/want the car today?
2. Do you have the money or are you willing to make the monthly payments?

If answer is yes to both questions go get one. Just send an email to some dealers and get an agreement on price. Its what I did, got one for 28500 plus tax etc. I am happy with the price I paid the dealer is happy, thats all that matters.

Most people on this forum are here because they like the car. So asking the question here is a little moot. Complaining about sticker prices or low HP or engine bay over-spray (Who actually cares about this one???) or engine chirping or clunky gear change is all part of owning the vehicle. Sure it would be nice if the car was perfect. Its not, it's a 25k-30k car making it available to most people who have the desire to own an affordable sports car. It is not a BMW M? or AUDI S? or any other hi end sports coupe. Its a Toyota.

Buying a new car is a completely personal matter. My brother just spent 50K on a new truck. I respect his right to spend his cash one whatever floats his boat.

If you want one, go buy it. Who cares what other people think about you personal life choices.

Went through my credit union car buying service. Found an 860 for $27,899 with sticker of $30,799, it was an AT.
