Must have been a new salesman. Although once I have done a testdrive without the salesman, but I bought the car (in a different color ) afterwards.

I think he's asking 'what car?'. I usually take my test drives without the side seat salesman.

It is just surprising the dealer allowed a test drive without any ID or license. The test drives I have gone on the dealership makes a photocopy of my license and then gives it back to me. Salesman just leaves the photocopy back at the dealership.
