Probably has more grip, better handling than stock setup anyway.

Really....really?

How many track teams do you see running stretched tires. How many regional or national auto cross guys do you see running stretched tires, even in a stock class? Zero...that's how many.

This is a toyota/subaru with suspension set ups taken from other models. the car is a low budget sports car that is supposed to be fun. Stop hyping it up to be some ultra-refined super car. It is not.

And for the record, drifters dont stretch tyres because they cant afford wider rubber. They do it to reduce sidwewall flex so the oversteer is easier to generate and easier to control. Perhaps you should learn the facts before putting your tin-foil hat on next time.
1. These aren't really Prius tires. Other cars that come with our OEM tire from the factory: Lexus GS 430, Mercedes E-Class and Audi A6. They are referred to as "17-inch performance tires" on the Toyota website and come as an option with a "race inspired wheel". Is it an option? Sure. Is referring to it as a Pirus tire done so for marketing? Yup. A Goodyear Fuel Max 196/65/15 with a 540 A B rating is the actual OEM Prius tire.

2. "This is a toyota/subaru with suspension set ups taken from other models." Oh? Where do our shorter than any other Subaru front struts and springs come from? Where do our lighter, stamped one piece LCAs come from? etc, etc.

3. Balance. Find any positive review out there (which is about 90% of them) and point to one in which a professional auto journalist, or ex-race driver doesn't talk about the amazing balance of the car. I've driven this car on a track, and as a totally stock offering it is nothing short of amazing, as intended. This is with a BRZ though...perhaps the intended oversteer of the FRS makes it unbalanced. Shame Toyota would do that with such a balanced chassis.

4. Drifters started using stretched tires because they ran whatever they had around. The benefits then became clear, easier to drift, and cheaper than paying for a low profile tire with a low side wall, ie: easier to break free and drift & cheaper = win. And...as I noted earlier, if all you plan on doing is drifting....stretch away.

Anything else you would like to be wrong about?

Did you know that a special feature of the wheels on this car is that you can actually take off whatever wheels you want to run on the street for looks and put on a set of non stagggered wheels with non stretched R compound semi slicks for maximum performance on track? It's a really awesome feature.

Anyway who knew that after dropping his own 40k on this car that he wasn't going to be allowed to do whatever the hell he wanted to do with his car? These are going to be the most molested car in the history of cars

Seems our friend is most pure in his application of modifications and we are the unclean that must be cleansed lest we ruin the 'pure handling' of the toybaru.

We all know that everyone on the interwebz in a car forum is the bestest driver of evar.

Personally I'm not a fan of stretch and poke (except at home - har, har!) but WTF's car looks good, and seeing his other rides I'd say he knows what he likes and can punt along.

Previous comment about wheels being removable is the sagest comment so far. Street is street, track is track - If you are exploring the limits of the handling envelope of any modern car on public roads then you have other problems (social skills for one). I've already got one set for the road, and planning another - smaller, lighter, closer to factory offsets for track.

My road choice is different to WTFs but it's my choice - his looks good, and kudos for posting it up when people are looking for info and trying to make their own choices - if they all looked the same we should all have bought white Camrys....

I've been to a handful of driving schools and have a solid amount of track time under my belt in karting, auto-x, HPDE, and SCCA ITA. Does that make me a good driver? Maybe, maybe not. I do have a lot of suspension and wheel/tire setup experience though.

Sorry for being a **** in this thread. Although it drives me crazy I'm just going to hold comments on stretch to myself from here on out, it doesn't accomplish anything but create drama, and there are plenty of other forums out there for that. Sorry all.
