im not saying that. im saying that to scoff at the idea is stupid. maybe someday you will realize that there is more to a car than rwd or boxer motors or any other singular aspect people compare on the internet. its just crazy that when someone "compares" a car to the brz they are haters but this very thread is full of stomping all over other peoples opinions and making stereotypes and few seem to call that out

I don't think anyone is saying that at all. I personally can appreciate the Cobalt SS as a great car for what it is, I definitely would never trash someone for owning one, but for me personally it just isn't what I want. And yet somehow if a Cobalt owner hates on the BRZ, that is fine with you. I'm just saying people should have a little perspective before they go saying their Cobalt is better than the "overhyped" BRZ, because it has more hp and is faster around a track. That isn't really a valid way to compare cars. Drive them both, and then say which one you enjoyed more.

i think we might be more on the same page than not (afterall were here on this forum and not the cobalt forum) but when i look at the majority of these posts, there is a lot of knocking on cobalt owners. assuming they have a chip on their shoulders or they have never driven anything else or they think their car is the best thing since the 911...and the brz is overhyped as far as im concerned. anytime a car sells for more than msrp its overhyped since people think its worth than even what the people who made it think its worth.

This makes me think of the time when Pt cruisers were selling with 5K markups!
Now, that was an overhyped car when it first arrived.

This thread is such a circlejerk...

"Haha, hey guys, guess what? My friend thought that a fast, well-reviewed FRONT WHEEL DRIVE CAR was similar to my pure, minimalistic, superior RIGHT WHEEL DRIVE car. Haha, isn't that funny? Agree with me guys, he's an idiot!"

No it's not, you're just reading what you want. Most people here are agreeing that the SS is a faster car and that it a great one too.

I guess this isn't the thread for you ?

The cobalt SS is the fastest shitty car you can get. It handles really well and with little mods puts down over 300whp. Unfortunately the paint job is crap, the interior is put together by a drunk, the shifter feels like you're forcing your hand through mud, and the door panels fall off easily. I liked the seats and sound system though. As long as you understand it is a GM product, you shouldn't be surprised by it's shoddy craftsmanship.

As far as I am concerned this car is compared to any sporty coupe on the market. All magazines will compare them to not only a RWD coupe but FWD sporty econboxes. The only real comparison of the BRZ is the FRS. The Miata is still smaller and lighter with 2 less seats, the S2000 is like the Miata but more like high performance version from Honda. I can see Nissan/Mazda being the only automaker to take on the FRS/BRZ if they make a Silvia/RX7. Honda has never made a 2+2 RWD small coupe. GM and the other American makes will probably never go into that segment either. If the European brands made a car like this it would cost 50k.

Hyped? I'm not sure that is correct when you say a car is overhyped because it sells for more than msrp? Is the s2k overhyped? No. But it was selling for over $15000 msrp when I first looked at them. Yes a dealer wanted $15000 over. It is just supply and demand. If they made 50 Cobalt SS they would easily sell for more than msrp, does that mean its over hyped. No.

Good question

That is a good question. I would say a car that doesn't stand up to its advertising and disappears in a year or two.

Here is a definition of hype

1. Excessive publicity and the ensuing commotion: the hype surrounding the murder trial.
2. Exaggerated or extravagant claims made especially in advertising or promotional material: "It is pure hype, a gigantic PR job" (Saturday Review).
3. An advertising or promotional ploy: "Some restaurant owners in town are cooking up a $75,000 hype to promote New York as 'Restaurant City, U.S.A.'" (New York).
4. Something deliberately misleading; a deception: "[He] says that there isn't any energy crisis at all, that it's all a hype, to maintain outrageous profits for the oil companies" (Joel Oppenheimer).

It's not exaggerated, a ploy, or misleading.

none of that is quantifiable or even pertains to cars unless you consider price which is excessive. even if it wasnt the hype around this car was much exaggerated. talk about lowest cog in a production car, talk about a 20k price tag, talk about out handling a cayman, talk about 250hp. i dont see how this car is not overhyped

Anyone who knocks a car without having first person experience isn't worth the few sentences it takes to prove them stupid.
