Supercharger on stock motor reliability?
2014 Scion FR-S with Jackson Racing supercharger, first c30 then c38, from when car was new, enjoyed every one of 30k+ miles, quite a few of those on track and with Jackson Racing oil cooler, @DeliciousTuning flash and go FNG tune.

Did you have the chance to compare the carb tune from JR or did you jump straight into the FNG tune? |

I have the JRSC c38 with flexfuel and all that jazz, on my stock internals. So far no issues.

I have yet to see someone post a failure on a CARB legal FI kit, many with tens of thousands of hard miles on them, and if you live where there's emissions checks you'll want a setup that's compliant anyway. There are hiccups with all the aftermarket kits, but a few are more developed than others, narrow down your options and read through the ownership threads, all of them, should be well worth the effort spent.
$/hp isn't fantastic compared to other stuff out there, but those rarely factor in the costs of failures. If you don't have emissions laws, there's a handful of reputable tuners scattered across the U.S. that can squeeze more power out of those kits, many of which can be sold without CARB certification and tunes to save you a couple bucks. Even if you don't need CARB emissions compliance, it's nice to have an off the shelf safe tune that's no hassle. (It's what the car came with anyway) Edelbrock warranty only lasts until 30k miles on the odometer btw, regardless of when you have the kit installed by a professional. Install kit at 29.5k miles? Warranty over in 500 miles. |
