I'd like to hear an informed review of how these compare to MCS single adjustables.

That's awesome! Love Speed Academy. It's interesting seeing how the suspension soaked up the big bumps on that track. DP was tossed around the seat but the car looked planted.

When doing research on different coilovers, AST rebuilds were the most expensive. So if you are planning on tracking and having them rebuilt every year this might be something to consider.

Not track - don't want to go down that slippery slope at this time. I know I would become addicted and love it and I don't have the finances for it, so avoiding it for now.

So, just extremely spirited canyon carving!

I don't have anything helpful to add about the coilovers themselves, but I did happen to buy the used wheels on my car from the suspension specialist at Mann. So I wasn't actually a Mann customer but he was great to talk to about the FRS/BRZ in general and Subaru suspension stuff in particular as he and I have been around them since the early US WRX days.

If I don't cheap out with a used set of coilovers at some point down the road I'll definitely be talking to him about the Mann options.

Surprised to see none of the suspension gurus jumping in yet with their thoughts about these Mann spec'd AST coils! @CSG Mike

Then the Ohlin's might be what you are looking for. I'm at 9k fronts and 8k in the rear and while the car is not harsh, is not daily driver comfortable.
I also think the build quality on the Ohlin's is superior. Down the line if you decide to track the car, they can be re-valved to your spring liking.

My commute is only a few miles each way, so harshness doesn't bother me.

But interestingly enough Ohlins R&T is what I was originally looking at.

I have the Mann Engineering Type-25 coilovers, if you are thinking of going to the track, more than 1-2 per year, the inverted is the better choice. I've had mine for over 2 years and have not needed it to be rebuilt yet.

If you aren't going track, then the Type-25 coilover (non-inverted) would suffice. I have 225/40/18 tires and going in and out of most freeways, the car is stable at 75 mph on bigger loops.

If you pair it with swaybars and bushings, and the right alignment, there is minimal body roll around corners.

Check out my build thread: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...hlight=brzgirl

Good luck!

Thanks for taking the time to post up your thoughts, appreciate it!

I actually decided to go with the inverted AST 5100s instead of the ME spec "4150".

Sounds like I will be in for a similar experience as you though. The high speed stability you are describing sounds insane!

I will be on 245/40/17 tires, can't wait to try it out!

Cool! Where you getting your 5100? Post pics when you get it!

The AST 5100 is the same as ME Inverted. Mann Engineering helped AST designed that version of the shock. You can read more about their credentials here: https://www.mann-engineering.com/index.php/about-us

2012 AST Suspension AST Suspension ACS-S1401S / MEACS-SUB1401 Designed and developed the drawings for the kit (BRZ). Shock setup and lengths were confirmed and specified by us.
2012 AST Suspension AST Suspension ACU-S1401S /MEACU-SUB1401 Designed in parallel with the 4150 BRZ Kit or ACS-S1401S

Thanks for the info, I was kindof confused on how "AST USA is Mann Engineering". I suppose in that case I'm still getting an "ME spec" with the 5100. Further complicating things is the fact that AST doesn't really advertise their stuff at all. Meaning I don't really see their stuff for sale listed anywhere on any of the online 86 shops, even at higher end ones like Counterspace Garage.

Regardless, I am super excited. I saw this post on AST's Facebook page from yesterday: https://www.facebook.com/ast.suspens...69818056532099

I gotta ask but when you Americans say you run 9k springs, do you mean 9kg/mm springs or some other weird imperial imaginary number.
