If you purchased the S/C and had it installed by them, it was covered under the drivetrain 5yr/60k warranty.

Ding! Ding! Ding! This is why I'm certain this car will not get badged as a Scion. Personally, I think the whole Scion brand was a mistake. Toyota should have just put those cars out under their marque to begin with. I don't care what brand the car comes under, but I think, again, this would be counterproductive to Toyota's efforts. And I STILL think they should kill the scion bran and just rebadge those cars as 'Yotas! 100th post. w00t! |

If they did badge this a scion, wouldn't this car be a bit redundant with the tC ? I know the tC is FWD and all but still, both cars would probably be selling to the same demographic. Toyota has nothing like this car at the moment so I'd be SHOCKED that it didn't come as a Toyota.

the tC is just about dead. Its been out since 2004 (as an 05). Speculation is that the FUSE is replacing it sometime next year. But like everything else, who really knows.

The tC is on the way out with a 2011 or 2012 redesign (no info has surfaced yet). I've actually heard the same thing (this will be a Scion in the US) from a few sources. They work in the operations side, not the design/marketing side, so take it with a grain of salt. The original info about the tC redesign/replacement was that the Fuse concept was being reworked into something that can be produced.
A few of the small restrictions (such as price restriction) would suggest they are aiming to have it badged under the Scion marque, but we'll see if they stick to their guns. I have a feeling they will be tweeking this enough to raise the price, pushing it out of their Scion price-friendly range. Toyota has moved into single-trim models (Venza, FJ) with option packages, so if we don't hear about any "OPTIONAL" items (ie diff options, gearing options, etc)-- then the Scion rumor may be true (Scion options include MT/AT... and color). If it's a Scion, at least we'll have tons of carbon fiber plastic panels for the interior and b-pillars... lol If badged a Scion, there will be plenty of people that will look at it (the Scion target audience), as well as many that will simply dismiss it (those in sports/powerful cars that received 'challenges' from Scion owners...). Plus the Cowboy Hat looks better than the lightning bolt =P |

I don't think it will be a scion. The tC replacement is supposed to be a fwd with the newer 2.7L camry engine that puts out around 200hp. To be released in 2011. It's all a guess but the FT seems like it would be a little too high in price point to be the tC replacement. tC's are suppsed to start under 20K. If it was a scion at least it would be a fixed price though.
A note on the tC supercharger...the warrenty was one year including powertrain. |

Actually I'm starting to warm up to the idea of it being a Scion.
From the sound of the conversation with that Toyota U.S.A guy, even though he says nothing concrete, you can kind of tell in his mind he's leaning towards this thing being marketed as a Scion. Quite honestly, I'm not convinced the execs and beancounters at Toyota U.S.A really give a rats-ass about the "sporty" image of Toyota in America. This conversation also gives weight to that. The exec didn't sound excited at all, only merely stating its a sports car and then immediately going to the negative of how its hard to push a low-volume car. What warms me up to the idea is that, as stated previously in this thread, you'll be fairly safe from any any huge markup that they might to put up if the car gets really popular. I base this mainly off my local Toyota/Scion dealership (where I used to work) and the MSRP shown was what it was sold for. As far as this thing being too expensive to be a Scion I think people really aren't giving enough credit on Toyota's ability to introduce a base model at $20k. Fully loaded Scion tC's sell for ~22k so I don't think the price model has anything to do with it. This car might even replace the tC (though probably not taking its namesake, please God, don't let that happen). I say probably the Scion aE ![]() Do -not- mistake this as me saying I want it to be a Scion, because thats not the case at all. Pretty much what I'm saying is a good thing can come out of this thing being sold as a Scion, as thats the no markup, no hassle BS on pricing. |

1- I personally don't care what they badge it as.
2-They DO care about image..... not so much sporty, but a "youth" image. This car was meant to improve that part of the brands image. Furthermore you have teens buying (or having bought for them) Scions, but no bridge car to jump over to Toyota. A 20~23k price point also prices it out of scion's market. |
